Taking inspiration from somewhere and applying it somewhere else has become a trend now. Then may it be a song, a book, TV serials or a movie. We have many book lovers, but there are people who love watching visuals rather than reading books. Inspirations are taken from Tollywood and Hollywood films as well, but the most inspiration is taken from books. He is trolled for his writings. Two of the movies were huge blockbusters. Some of his book-turned-movies are: Book- One Night At The Call Center Movie- Hello Book- Five Point Someone Movie- 3 Idiots Book- 2 States Movie- 2 States Book- The 3 Mistakes Of My Life Movie- Kai Po Che Book- Half Girlfriend Movie- Half Girlfriend 2) Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay This Bengali novelist gave us two movies that are very special, namely- Devdas and Parineeta. He was also a story-teller of the early 20th century. Book- Devdas Movie- Devdas Book- Parineeta Movie- Parineeta 3) The Guide The movie Guide has the famous song “Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai.” R.K Narayan is the one who gave Bollywood this story. He is also a Padma Vibhushan winner. His novel is critically acclaimed. 4) Emma Sonam Kapoor’s movie Aisha is one of her best movies in her acting career. It is based on the novel Emma by Jane Austen. 5) Shakespeare Shakespeare’s novels are iconic and so the movies that are made by its inspiration are iconic as well. There are a few Bollywood movies that are based on his novels, they are: Book- Othello Movie- Omkara The movie was a hit. And its characters i.e Langda Tyagi, Kesu Firangi and Omkara are still in our minds. So, this particular movie was based on the novel Othello. Book- Hamlet Movie- Haider We all know how Haider owned the year 2014. It starred Shahid Kapoor and the story was however written by Shakespeare. Book- Macbeth Movie- Maqbool It is a Mumbai Gangster story and was adapted from a Shakespeare’s play. The lead roles were played by Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Piyush Mishra and Pankaj Kapoor. It is said to be one of the best on-screen adaption of his play to date. 6) Ruskin Bond Book- Susanna’s Seven Husbands Movie- 7 Khoon Maaf The book Susanna’s Seven Husbands was a 4-page short story. Vishal Bharadwaj requested Ruskin Bond to elaborate the story. It was then stretched and made an 80-page novel and was eventually converted into a film. Book- The Blue Umbrella Movie- The Blue Umbrella This movie won the National Award for the Best Children’s film in 2005. The movie was adapted from a critically acclaimed novel by Ruskin Bond. 7) The Last Leaf Book- The Last Leaf Movie- Lootera The movie was taken from a short story by O Henry. It was made into a movie by Vikramaditya Motwane. 8) White Nights Book- White Nights Movie- Saawariya Did you know the movie which is famous for its ‘towel dance’ i.e Saawariya is an adaption of a short story White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky? 9) Sehab, Bibi Aur Golam Book- Saheb, Bibi Aur Golam Movie- Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam The book written by a Bengali author was made into the movie Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam by Guru Dutt in the year 1962. 10) The Citadel Book- The Citadel Movie- Tere Mere Sapne Dev Anand is seen playing the lead in this movie. It is based on the book The Citadel. 11) A Flight Of Pigeons Book- A Flight Of Pigeons Movie- Junoon The novel was made into a movie that was critically acclaimed, by Shyam Benegal named Junoon in the year 1978. 12) Pinjar Book- Pinjar Movie- Pinjar It is based on a Punjabi novel which had the same name and was written by Amrita Pritam. 13) Shatranj Ke Khiladi Book- Shatranj Ke Khiladi Movie- Shatranj Ke Khiladi The movie was Satyajit Ray’s masterpiece. Even this movie was based on Munshi Premchand’s book ‘Shatranj Ke Khiladi. 14) Saraswatichandra Book- Saraswatichandra Movie- Saraswatichandra The TV series named Saraswatichandra is also based on the novel Saraswatichandra. 15) Karachi You’re Killing Me Book- Karachi You’re Killing Me Movie- Noor Karachi in the movie is replaced by Mumbai.
