The photo shows a baby sloth. Sloth is a medium-sized mammal belonging to the family of Megalonychidae and Bradypodidae and is classified to six species. They are inhabitants of the South and Central American jungles and are reputed as being slow-movers, and therefore called “sloths”. They are incapable of surviving in any other environment other than the tropical rainforest of Central and South America. Sloths can be termed as folivores since a majority of their diet consists of buds, leaves, and tender shoots primarily of the Cecropia trees. As leaves give very little energy, sloth deals with this through a variety of measures such as having extremely low metabolic rates.
