Skunks are mammals and are renowned for their capability to emanate a liquid having strong odour. Hence, the name of the creature is synonymous with “stench” and it is also called the “stinking spotted weasel”. They vary in appearance depending on their species and are brown, cream, or black-and-white coloured. Their body is moderately elongated with well-muscled, short legs and lengthy front claws to help in digging. They are omnivorous and eat both animals and plants. They eat larvae and insects, earthworms, small rodents, grubs, lizards, salamanders, snakes, birds, frogs, eggs, moles, berries, leaves, and roots. Skunks alter their dietary habits on a seasonal basis.
