THE BLOODY BLOOD SHEDDING BANDITS OF INDIA AND THEIR STORIES OF PAIN! Dacoits and their activities may be a crime according to the Indian Penal Code, but this treacherous act of murderous intentions and emotions is a fair game for those, who took this lunge of human conscience. While some were pained by the societal ills, others were forced into it. Whatever it may have been, the blood shedding Bandits in India have a history of their own. While they appear to be blood thirsty and moral less, when you read about them, you will not be able to stop yourself from empathizing with them. Though they all met their fate, they are still remembered, and are the unsung heroes of their communities. 1. Daku Man Singh What would you call a man who committed over a thousand robberies, and was an expert at ransom kidnappings? This man had 185 murders on his name! Bloody Gross murders! Why would anybody kill 200 people? Infamously known as Daku Man Singh, a bandit was born into the high class Rajput Clan in Agra. After he became a bandit, his home was the ravines of Chambal, which already had a lot of blood sprayed over them. His Gang was of 17 people, dreaded by the police and the locals alike. All 17 of them were either his friends or family, including a brother. He and his son Gurkha Singh were shot dead in an encounter by the Gurkha troops in 1955, while they were sitting under a Banyan tree in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh. When S.N Subba Rao heard Man Singh speak, he was amazed and impressed. The Subedar was a witness to his humility and respectful way of communicating. It still baffles him, that a man of a high class like Singh would have chosen this path of life? While the government was willing to reward anybody who would lead the police forces to Singh, this Rajput Bandit was adored by the public. People took offence to him being called a “Dacoit” or a “Bandit”. To his loyal population he was the “Baghi- the Rebel” and a rebel is no less than a saint for this community. Unbelievably, this murderer of 185 people has a temple on his name today in Khera Rathore, and is considered to be the Robin Hood of India. He was also called the “Lion of Chambal” and there are many local folk songs and folklore that praise him. He fought for his rights and his pride and died for it! If only the system would have been right, he would not have turned to dacoity to steal from the rich and share among the poor. 2. Dadua Shiv Kumar Patel does not sound like a gangster’s name, but “Dadua” does. A 22-year-old young man walked into Jaggannath’s house, touched his feet, smiled, and shot two bullets at him, killing him instantly. This was done just like that and in cold blood in order to avenge his father’s death! He was arrested for this crime the first and the last time, and many people who know him say that this was the time when he died within. It took the police forces 30 years to put an end to his ways, which ended with his death. After he was released, he joined the Raja Ragoli Gang, where he learnt the mastery of being a Dacoit from GaYa Kurmi, his mentor and lifeline support. After forming his own gang, Dadua led the “Ramu Ka Purwa” massacre where he killed 9 people. This was triggered off by the information that one of the victims was a police informer. Dadua was most severe with the police informers, where he would torture and mutilate their bodies for days together, before finally killing them! Had is father not been killed, he may not have been a dacoit perhaps. 3. Nirbhay Singh Gujjar This was a different bandit, in a different avatar. He was good looking, had enough guts, and was a womanizer! In totality, he knew how to kill, whether it was a bullet, or his looks! A local dacoit who had kept the government on their toes and knees for ten years was killed in 2005 after much effort and money had been wasted on him. Gujjar had the audacity to operate from Etawah which was the district of the Chief Minister, and he has caused Mulayam Singh Yadav enough embarrassment. He had started the trend of “Satellite Gangs” where he, as the gang Leader, would settle at one location, while small satellite gangs would do the kidnapping and the robberies. He was killed by his own people in a way. Those who supported and helped him were the ones who got him killed. Many of his gang members had become police informers, much to his amazement; he realized it when he was about to be killed. He was unaware of the disloyalty in his own gang and one night, after his gang got him drunk, they left him alone and alerted the Special Task Force. This was the last night of his life and he was killed in a drunken stupor. Gujjar loved good life – a life of wine, women, mobile phones and limelight. In fact his interview with the local media where he had challenged the then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, went against him completely, and a ‘zero tolerance’ policy was framed for him, ultimately leading to his death. His life was something that would leave many Bollywood actors envious – night binoculars, assault rifles, Ak-47 guns, mobile phones and bulletproof jackets! Amusingly, he would not drink local booze and would sip the best whiskey in town! The most amazing is his astronomy and marriages which will leave you bewildered. At 23 years of age, Gujjar abducted a 13-year-old girl in a property dispute. This teen fell in love with her abductor and married him. After three years of marriage, Seema Parihar ran away with Gujjar’s mentor and gangster Lala Ram. But Gujjar could not stay single and used his power and money to maxims. He then married a 16-year-old Munni Panday, whom he groomed in crime after he kidnapped her. She eloped away with his cousin Munna Gujjar and this was what resulted in the couple’s death. Enraged at his misfortunes, Gujjar again married Neelam, a 16-year-old girl, in presence of many locals and police officers at a grand wedding. But six months into this dream marriage, she ran away too and this time with his adopted son! Many sources claim that his broken marriages led him in to a total mental shout down and while his drinking habits increased day by day, his thinking process was slowed down considerably, leading to his death eventually! 4. Phoolan Devi Widely known and acclaimed as the ‘Bandit Queen of India’, she later on became a politician. Phoolan Devi was forced to become a moll of the leader of a group of bandits by her ill-fated adolescence, and later was brutally gang raped by the members of the group, when the leader was killed. To avenge her life and her past, she became a bandit, in order to prove her mettle and attain peace through bloodshed. She came into lime light by the Behmai Massacres, wherein she killed 22 upper caste Hindus. It is believed that the woes of her life started just because she was a low caste Hindu. While the agricultural lands that their family owned were illegally and forcibly taken from them, poverty led the family to hunger and pain. Add to it, the woes of being forcibly married to a man who was old, almost dead! Phoolan tried to run away from all this, but the society pushed her deeper into the darkness every time. Eventually, the brutal gang rape was the turning point, where she found her inner strength and decided to retaliate, going after every single person, who had betrayed her and pained her.
