Refusal to BBC
In an interview Prem sagar mentioned that the there was a significant reason for opting to broadcast with DD National and not BBC. BBC placed a prerequisite for the rerun. The lead actor Mr. Arun Govil was supposed to dress up like Ram and parade in the BBC studios. BBC would broadcast this to introduce its audience with the show.

Ramand Sagar’s Ramayan got impeccable love from its audience in the past. The reason was the originality of the characters. They knew very well that agreeing to BBC’s condition, would take away the essence of Ram and misinterpret his influence.
The father and son duo perceived that this entire decision would pose a threat to Ram’s image. As a result of all these insecurities, Ramanand Sagar gave the rights of rerun to Doordarshan. The show broke all records ever.

Prem Sagar also mentioned that there was a seraphic energy that helped the show reach its peak in viewership records. It is only because of this energy that the show attracted 77 million views as compared to Game of Thrones that had 17.5 million and The Big Bang theory which had 18 million views.
