Top 10 Countries in the World for Cheating in Relationships 1 Thailand 56% We all knew Thailand was the big cheese when it comes to sex, prostitution, lady boys, weird fetishes, strip clubs, brothels, and basically all things sexual (and some things you wouldn’t think are sexual until the Thais somehow find a way) but it’s only recently been discovered that it’s also the world’s capital for adultery. Is the nation’s booming sex industry to blame for this? Who knows – generally all these wild and wacky sex shows and prostitution are directed at the tourists, but clearly the odd native businessman or housewife gets sucked into it too! 2 Denmark 46% Copenhagen didn’t earn itself the title of “social and erotic arena” by having all their newlyweds stick to their adorable vows throughout their entire disappointing, unsatisfying and sexless marriages. According to Frommer’s travel guide, you can blame geographical marketing ploys for the infidelity – it’s not uncommon to find sex shops opposite family hotels. 3 Italy 45% It seems that the “Casanova” stereotype isn’t a stereotype – Italian dudes are quite the smooth talkers, especially once they’re already married (because nothing gets your confidence up like getting a girl to agree to spend her life with you!) The women of Italy are just as bad though. I guess in such a romantic place, it’s easy to get swept away in the moment. And now let’s make you aware of the fact that the website’s number of registered Norwegian users went up 78% during a rare heat wave recently. Because when it’s suddenly hot in a usually cold country, obviously you need to have sex – and apparently not with the person you married! 7 Belgium 40% You know that Colin Farrell movie In Bruges, which basically slags off Belgium for 90 minutes straight? Well perhaps Belgium is so boring that husbands and wives find themselves having affairs just to keep things interesting! After all, dating website Gleeden has 1.1 million Belgian members, making up a whopping 10% of the population! Are some of these 1.1 million people married? I would say yes… 8 Spain 39% It only takes a quick glance at any given Spanish woman to understand why the country has a high rate of adultery – Spanish women are absolutely stunning! Now I know that’s no excuse, and if you can’t keep it in your pants for everyone except the woman you love, then don’t get married, but still… it would be hard to say no to Penelope Cruz or Salma Hayek. 9 United Kingdom 36% While the UK might be one of the least sexually promiscuous countries in Europe (read the rest of this list and see for yourself), they also tend to feel guiltier about an affair afterwards than most other countries in Europe too! Around 50% of Brits who claim to have cheated also claimed they regretted it afterwards. Hmmm… Was that because they legitimately felt guilty, or because they got caught? 10 Finland 36% According to a Finnish blogger, infidelity is justified because “sex is viewed as a very positive experience, so when a person is presented with the possibility of a sexual experience, it’s in some ways socially sanctioned to pursue it.” Wow, with a mindset like that, I’d bet good money on that blogger being single!
