Bollywood mourns the untimely demise of ‘Drishyam’, ‘Madaari’ director Nishikant Kamat at 50

Mourning the tragic demise of actor-director, Nishikant Kamat, the whole film fraternity took to their social media accounts. Popularly known for giving hits like ‘Drishyam’, ‘Madaari’, Mumbai Meri Jaan, among several others, the ace Bollywood actor bade for his heavenly abode on August 17 in AIG Hospital, Hyderabad. The filmmaker was admitted to the hospital after he was diagnosed with jaundice and abdominal distention.

Making his debut into the film industry with the regional film ‘Dombivali Fast’, Nishikant Kamat had also worked as an actor in movies like ‘Rocky Handsome’ (2016) starring John Abraham, ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’, ‘Fugay’ and ‘Julie 2’.

Remembering one of the finest directors of the film Industry celebs like Ajay Devgn, Genelia Deshmukh, Yami Gautam and many more took to micro blogging site to pay the deceased tribute.

Writing on his twitter handle Ajay Devgn who had worked with him in ‘Drishyam’ wrote, “My equation with Nishikant was not just about Drishyam, a film which he directed with Tabu and me. It was an association that I cherished. He was bright; ever-smiling. He has gone too soon. RIP Nishikant 🙏.”

While, Genelia Deshmukh, who had ‘found a life coach’ in him wrote, “#NishikantKamat you were one of a kind.. I found a life coach in you.. I live by so much that we discussed and I live with knowing you were such an amazing soul and I’m just so glad our paths crossed.. I will miss you dear Nishi .. R.i.p ❤️.”

Yami Gautam also reacted to his tragic demise, “Nishikant Kamat 🙏🏻 Really sad to hear about his untimely demise 🙏🏻,” wrote Yami on her twitter account.

The director had suffered Liver Cirrhosis in the past, which was relapsed recently and was also diagnosed with jaundice and abdominal distention following his condition he was admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad. But as his condition didn’t get any better, the director succumbed to his illness in the Hospital.  A statement was, however, released by the hospital authorities stating that Nishikant Kamat is diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and was kept under observation in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The statement read, “Mr Nishikant Kamat (50 years, Male) was brought to AIG Hospitals, Gachibowli, Hyderabad on 31st July with jaundice and abdominal distention. He has been diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections. He is in the intensive care unit for continuous monitoring under supervision of a multi- disciplinary team of senior consultants comprising of Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Critical Care and others. His condition is critical but stable. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

Nishikant Kamat was working on his upcoming project ‘Darbadar’, which was slated to hit theatres in 2022.
