16 Bollywood Actors Who Refused to Endorse Fairness Products

When it comes to endorsements, many fairness products companies have roped in Bollywood celebrities as they think that celeb faces will help in retaining the products brand value.From Shahrukh Khan to John Abraham to Deepika Padukone, everyone has been seen endorsing fairness products. But there are some celebs from the film fraternity who have said no in promoting any products related to racism or skin discrimination. He refused to be a brand persona for a fairness cream brand and in an interview, he said "This fair skin obsession has to be discouraged. It's so regressive to put a value, negative or positive, to skin colour. Things like these are actually seeds of racism and they only promote low self-esteem. I believe in loving yourself just the way you are; dark, dusky or wheatish - you're perfect." Bipasha Basu This Bengali Beauty refused fairness cream endorsement and said that she will never promote such products. Dipannita Sharma The model turned actress said in an interview “It’s important to understand that good skin or beautiful skin, whether bright or dull, has nothing to do with its colour. It’s about having healthy, clear skin with a natural glow, which can be achieved in any skin colour across the world." Swara Bhaskar The dusky beauty, when asked for endorsing a skin lightening product, turned down its offer saying “This fair skin obsession has to be discouraged. It’s so regressive and problematic to put a value, negative or positive to skin colour. It’s actually the seeds of racism and it only promotes low self-esteem. For me, I believe in loving yourself just the way you are. Dusky, dark or wheatish, you are perfect, all I want to tell the girls is don’t change.” Esha Gupta She turned down lucrative deal to endorse a fairness product and said, “I don’t know why we are so obsessed with the colour ‘white’, and why we give it so much importance. We can’t let a child grow up confidently if we discriminate against him or her on the basis of his or her skin colour.” Tapsee Pannu She refused to attend an event in Jaipur because the sponsors were a fairness cream brand. Anushka Sharma She refused a popular fairness product brand and sworn to never promote such products. In an interview she quoted, “I would not endorse products that propagate racist and sexiest (beliefs)….and propagate social taboo. I don’t want to endorse products that propagate fair skin and all. I will not propagate anything that says this is right or wrong.” Kangana Ranaut Known as the most bankable actress of Bollywood, the “Queen” also rejected huge offer of Rs 2 Crores because she did not want to endorse fairness cream products. Abhay Deol He not only refused to endorse or promote fairness products but recently he slammed many celebs for promoting such products. Imran Khan The chocolate boy of Bollywood has also turned down many offers of fairness brands. 11.Aishwarya Rai Bachchan The Bachchan Bahu earlier endorsed Fair & Lovely but later on she refused many offers saying that she would only endorse products she believes in. 12.Aamir Khan Mr Perfectionist who is always seen in promoting social agendas and issues said no in promoting any fairness products. 13.Ranbir Kapoor The heartthrob of Bollywood turned down many offers saying that such products strengthen the racist stereotypes that is deeply rooted in the Indian mindset. Nandita Das She started an online campaign called 'Stay Unfair, Stay Beautiful' and endorsed an anti fairness products campaign called Dark Is Beautiful. 15.Randeep Hooda The 'Sarbjit' actor turned down lucrative offer expressing his view saying that he doesn’t believe in the obsession with fairness and that men should be tall, dark and handsome instead of fair. Kalki Koechlin In an interview, she has taken stand against not promoting fairness creams or products. She said, “I endorse an anti-ageing cream because I do feel I have to take better care of my skin with age." She further added saying, "But I am clear that fairness is not something I promote with them. In fact, I would love to endorse a cream which makes me darker, I am always trying to get a tan!"
