Superstars Big Pay Cheques Is The Real Reason Why Bollywood Films Will Never Make Bahubali 2?
Even the lack of niche content and less universal appeal became the reasons for the Bollywood filmmakers to make films like Bahubali 2. He added, “India is a nation of 1.3 billion people. You cannot make a film for an audience that starts in Bandra and ends in Andheri. While we need to make the smaller films, we also need to make these kind of cinema (Baahubali 2). We also need to look at the economy and for the sake of the industry, we should make more universal cinema.”
To explain in detail why Bollywood lacks to make a big film, Akshay said, ” Fast and The Furious will not win an Oscar or will not get critical acclaim, but the reason why it becomes one of the biggest blockbusters in the world is because it caters to a more universal audience and that is where our filmmakers need to be more gutsy, more creative, more open minded about being able to make a product that can cater to as large an audience as possible. For example, in the case of Coke and Red Bull, Coke might not be half as good as Red Bull but then Coke is something that caters to dhabas as well as to the Taj Hotel. So the point is to reach out to as wide an audience as possible.”
Overall, this clearly explains that Bollywood is still following the superstar formula to make a hit movie. Interestingly, Hollywood doesn’t follow this formula or even if they follow, they don’t pay a hefty amount to the actors. They mostly focus on the story and the production value rather than the big superstars.
