No Firecrackers For You This Diwali In Delhi, Supreme Court Imposed Ban Till 1st November

This is defiantly not a good news if you were planning to celebrate Diwali with lots of firecrackers in Delhi. According to the report in leading news portal NDTV, Supreme Court has reinstated a ban on the sale of firecrackers till 1st November. The ban was imposed in order to test the difference in the air quality. If you have already bought the firecrackers for this Diwali, you can burst them, as there is no ban on that. But if you haven’t, you are in for a big surprise, folks.

Back in September this year, India’s highest court had suspended the ban on the sale of firecrackers temporarily, saying that a complete ban would be an extreme step.

The Apex Court has given a judgment recently regarding this matter. According to the judgment, the 12th September verdict will be applicable from 1st November this year.

For Your Information

Nevertheless, Supreme imposed a ban on the sale of crackers after the festival, responding to a petition filed by three children in 2015.

On 11th November 2016, the court had passed a judgment putting a complete ban on the sale of firecrackers within the National Capital Region, responding to a petition about the disturbing rise in pollution levels after Diwali.

This decision of the Apex Court gave a huge blow to firecracker industry. Therefore they asked for a relaxation of the complete ban. In the wake of that 12th September Judgment came, which did give them some relief.

Advocate Gopal Shankarnarayanan appeared in the court for petitioner Arjun Gopal. He argued before the court that the ban on the sale of firecrackers should be restored because NCR has seen a huge rise in the air pollution during Diwali period last year.
