Mandeep Takhar often called as Mandy Takhar is a British Punjabi actress who is often seen in Punjabi films. She was born and brought up in the city of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom. She comes from a Sikh Jatt family and have her origin in a small village called Maliana, which is near Phagwara in Punjab. She was quite a tom boy in her early teens and was the only female in boy’s rugby team, football team, and also got trained in Martial Arts. She then headed to London from her family home when she was barely 17, to study drama at the Kingston University and then left the UK in 2009 to work as an actor in the Panjabi film industry in India. This then started the journey of Mandeep Takhar in the Punjabi Cinema.
Mandeep headed to Mumbai in 2010 and soon landed in the role opposite renowned Punjabi singer Babbu Mann the same year in a film called Ekam – Son of Soil. Her work was highly appreciated that gave her the lead role opposite in the superstar Gippy Grewal high budget movie called Mirza – The Untold Story. She played the character called Sahiba, which happens to be the modern adaptation of the ethic love story of Mirza-Sahiba. She got nominated for the best actress at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards. This made her the most loved actresses of Punjabi cinema. Her next comedy film Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 with Amrinder Gill and Honey Singh too rocked the box office wherein she played the character of teacher and won hearts again and got loads of rewards and recognition.
Some of her other Punjabi movies include Ishq Garaari, Sardaarji, Munde Kamaal De and Ardaas to name a few. She also worked in south Indian movies particularly in Tamil. These include Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru and Biriyani. Besides, she has worked for a Hindi movie as well called Bumboo. Apart from movies, she is also involved in a number of humanitarian acts. Last year in 2016 she personally visited a number of refugee camps close to the Iraq and Syria border, in association with her supported UK based charity Khalsa Aid to help the refugees in crisis.
