Divya Dutta is an accomplished actress in Bollywood having played many character roles. Starting her career from the film Suraksha in 1994, the actress had a gradual but steady progress to the fame that she enjoys today. She has worked in Punjabi, Malayalam and English films besides Hindi films. Her most memorable characters came in films namely Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Kasoor, Sur-The Melody of Life, Shakti- The Power, Baghban, Veer Zaara, Murder, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Umrao Jaan, Welcome to Sajjanpur, Stanley ka Dabba and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
Divya was born on 25 September 1977 in Ludhiana, Punjab. She was educated in Sacred Heart convent in Ludhiana. She has an elder brother. She had lost her father early in her childhood and was brought up by her mother in Ludhiana. As a model she has acted in Punjabi commercials on the regional channel. She came to Mumbai to pursue her career in films and got the first chance in the movie Suraksha which was a multi starrer. The film was a box office success following which she was cast in leading roles. But the actress did not find any success as the leading heroine. Continuing with unsuccessful roles in Bollywood, she found success in Punjabi movies namely Shaheed –e- Mohabbat Boota Singh. She made Nepali debut with the film Basanti.
Divya’s career flourished with roles of supporting actresses for which she got wide spread recognition. Her most recognized work came in her supporting roles in the films Shakti- The Power, Sur-The Melody of Life, Zindagi Khoobsurat Hain, Pran Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye. In 2004, she played a key role in the romantic saga Veer Zaara. This was followed by Murder, Agnipankh and Des Hoya Pardes, Shaadi ka Laddo. She was noticed for her role as the sister of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in his biopic. She got appreciation for her work in the film The Last Lear. She is known for her roles in Welcome to Sajjanpur and U Me Aur Hum.
