Comedians are good actors: Siddharth Sagar
Riding high playing the successful character of Selfie Mausi in ‘Comedy Classes’, the very talented actor and comedian Siddharth Sagar talks about his journey so far, offers he is getting, his co-actors and director of the show.
How did Comedy Circus land to you?
I started working at the age of 8 as a stage performer in Delhi. After few years, Arshad Ansari, a celebrity manager noticed my work and invited me to Mumbai, to work for Comedy Circus. I was auditioned and people liked my work. After that, there was no looking back and I’m associated with this production house.
Is Krushna Abhishek your mentor?
Not just Krushna, Sudesh Lehri, Bharti Singh, Shakeel Siddique and most importantly, captain of the ship, our director Nikul C. Desai are my mentors. I feel blessed to be working with these stalwarts in comedy.

Being a good looking actor, are you happy playing Selfie Mausi as a permanent character?
I am very happy playing Selfie Mausi. This character is widely appreciated by people; I also play the character of Naseer which is not less adorable than Mausi. I think a good looking male actor playing a woman is acceptable, think an ugly actor playing a woman wouldn’t look so nice on-screen (laughs).
Do you wish to act in a serious or performance oriented role?
Yes I do wish. Also, I’m in talks with a couple of production houses for that. We’re still only at the talking stage, once things are finalized, you will see me acting in some movies.
So you started getting movie offers?
Fortunately yes. When you work whole heartedly, good roles land to you by the grace of God. I am mostly so engrossed in my work; I have no time to notice other things. Maybe that helped me by making others notice my skills and efforts.
Are you satisfied the way your career is shaping?
There is nothing more I could have asked for. A wonderful production house to work with, supportive co-actors, loveable audience and some appreciation, I’ve got them all. God has been really kind to me.
Do you feel comedians are considered as good actors on Indian television?
A person who’s an actor can be a good comedian, so comedians are evidently good actors. Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri have worked in big budget successful movies. They got those offers not because they were just comedians, but also they’re amazing actors. Abhishek Bachchan handed over his Best Comedian trophy to Krushna at TOIFA Awards; it proves comedians are good actors.
How is Nikul C. Desai as a director?
There wouldn’t be any director as supportive and great as Nikul. I have reached this place because of him and I have deep regards for Nikul. I have worked in Nach Baliye 7, Dance India Dance, getting movie offers but there’s no stopping or restrictions from my director’s end. What more I could expect? He is my mentor and I consider him as my elder brother.
Did your co-actors help you get contacts in the industry?
When you work with sheer honesty, I don’t think there’s any help needed. Keep working and you eventually end up meeting good people.
