10 On screen couples bitter equation off screen

We all have that one couple from a movie or television show that we just adore and can’t seem to get enough of. They’re that couple that we think about and all that comes to mind is “#relationshipgoals”. So, it’s sad and somewhat surprising to know that not all of the actors who played our favorite couples on-screen actually got along in real life. It took some real acting skills to make it seem like they had chemistry and were really in love, so for that, we have to give them some credit. The good news is that some of them have since made amends and one couple even ended up dating for years after filming. Here are 10 on-screen couples who surprisingly didn’t get along off-screen. 1. Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey When you think of Dirty Dancing (1987), the first thing that comes to mind is probably the undeniable chemistry Frances or “Baby” (Jennifer Grey) and Johnny (Patrick Swayze) had. So, it really is a shocker that these two actually admitted to not having the chemistry that the world believed they had. As Grey says, “I didn’t think we had chemistry. But you either do or you don’t. It’s a weird thing, though. It doesn’t have to do with whether you like someone or not. It’s just you either have it or you don’t.” For Swayze, it seemed to be more than a lack of chemistry, as he wrote in his autobiography, “We did have a few moments of friction when we were tired or after a long day of shooting. [Grey] seemed particularly emotional, sometimes bursting into tears if someone criticized her. Other times, she slipped into silly moods, forcing us to do scenes over and over again when she’d start laughing.” Thankfully, the two reconciled before Swayze’s passing and Grey paid tribute to him on the show, Dancing with the Stars. 2.Chad Michael Murray & Sophia Bush In 2003, Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) and Brooke (Sophia Bush) became the couple every teenager gushed over while watching One Tree Hill. Like other famous couples, they were even bestowed their own name, Brucas. So, it seemed like a fairytale when the actor and actress tied the knot in May 2004. Sadly, it was not a happy ending as they separated just 5 months later. There were rumors that Murray had cheated on Bush with Paris Hilton. Yet, the two continued acting on the show for an unbelievable 4 years! Bush herself stated that it wasn’t easy filming after the divorce and has made it clear that she doesn’t keep in touch with her ex. 3.Leonardo DiCaprio Romeo + Juliet (1996) is an adaptation of one of the greatest love stories, but, it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine on the set. Claire Danes, who played Juliet, was not very impressed with Leonardo’s prankster ways during the filming of the movie. He was only 22 at the time but that didn’t stop Danes from saying that he was “very immature.” He, in turn, thought that she was uptight. They apparently avoided each other whenever the cameras weren’t rolling. The pair even had the opportunity to work with each other in the 2011 film J. Edgar, however, Danes turned down the role for one in the hit TV show Homeland. Despite this, Danes rooted for Leo for an Oscar win after his performance in The Revenant (2015), saying, “He’s been a genius for decades and he’s not very old…he’s such an exquisite actor and we’ve all adored him.” Looks like the two have put the past behind them. 4.Pierce Brosnan and Teri Hatcher James Bond is the ultimate ladies man, but there was one woman who he didn’t quite get along with in real life. While filming Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Pierce Brosnan was constantly upset over Teri Hatcher’s timing. He said “I got very upset with her… She was always keeping me waiting for hours… I must admit I let slip a few words which weren’t very nice.” Teri was pregnant at the time and was experiencing morning sickness, so it’s no surprise that she slapped him a bit harder than she was supposed to during a stunt scene. 5.Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer entertained us for a decade as Rachel and Ross in the beloved sitcom, Friends. Their relationship in the show was realistic, not a sappy romance. It was turbulent, yet so clear to us that these twos were each other’s lobsters, as Phoebe would say. This talented duo made their acting seem so effortless; from the intense arguments to the cute stares. It’s easy to imagine that these two (along with their other 4 co-stars) would be best friends in real life, but unfortunately, this isn’t the case. Schwimmer was infuriated when Aniston admitted on US television back in 2010, that she had no idea who he was getting married to, although he had been with his girlfriend for a few years. Again in 2015, Aniston left Schwimmer off her guestlist for her wedding to Justin Theroux and he was reportedly upset over the situation. All hope is not lost, though, as the pair were seen enjoying themselves with their former co-stars at a recent tribute event. 6.Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughan There were rumors that Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn didn’t get along so well while filming Four Christmases (2008). Apparently, the actors have completely different filming styles. While Witherspoon tends to be well-prepared and sticks to the script, Vaughn prefers to wing it. The two did not appear on the red carpet together, further fueling the story, however, Witherspoon has tried to dispel the rumors by saying that Vaughn was “the funniest person” she’s ever worked with. 7.Lauren Graham and Scott Patterson Every Gilmore Girls fan wanted to see Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) get married, and perhaps it will finally happen in Netflix’s upcoming revival of the series. Although the co-stars didn’t have a dramatic feud or flat-out hate each other, Lauren Graham admitted that they were not the best of friends. Sorry GG fans, there go your fantasies of the two co-stars hanging out at your local coffee shop making fun of silly town traditions and talking about life. 8.Angelina Jolie and It seems like the perfect idea, having two of Hollywood’s biggest stars (and most attractive) in a movie together. Based on past films, this usually goes one of two ways: the movie either becomes a complete hit or a total flop. Unfortunately, the talented Jolie and Depp had no chemistry whatsoever when they appeared in The Tourist (2010). They reportedly had numerous issues with one another. Jolie was upset that Depp didn’t clean himself up while filming (which, to her, entails cutting his hair and getting into shape) or arrive on time and Depp thought she was too uptight and full of herself. 9. Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling The Notebook (2004) is the modern equivalent of Romeo and Juliet, also known as the ultimate love story. Noah and Allie had their ups and downs, made us laugh and made us cry. The chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling seemed real and audiences wanted to see these two get together in real life, which they eventually did! They went on to have a rather long relationship (by Hollywood standards) which was on-and-off from 2005 to 2008. However, the pair ironically did not get along while filming the popular movie and Gosling thought that they didn’t have chemistry with each other. Their director, Nick Cassavetes, relieved the tension in an interview; “They were really not getting along one day on set. Really not. And Ryan came to me…and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.’” Who would have thought? It just goes to show that these two really can put on a performance. 10.David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) searched for the truth for nearly a decade on The X-Files. But, the sad truth was that these co-stars just didn’t get along. In a 2008 interview, Duchovny revealed that “familiarity breeds contempt. It’s nothing to do with the other person. All that fades away and you’re just left with the appreciation and love for the people you’ve worked with for so long. We used to argue about nothing. We couldn’t stand the sight of each other.” Anderson agrees; in her interview with The Guardian, she says, “I mean, yes, there were definitely periods when we hated each other…hate is too strong a word. We didn’t talk for long periods of time. It was intense, and we were both pains in the ass for the other at various times.” The two are apparently on good terms after filming The X-files: I Want to Believe (2008).
