Veteran Malayalam Actor TP Madhavan Passes Away at 88 After Battling Stomach-Related Ailments

Veteran Malayalam actor TP Madhavan passed away at a private hospital in Kollam on Wednesday, October 9, at the age of 88. As per Mathrubhumi, the actor had been on life support due to stomach complications. His funeral is set to take place on Thursday, October 10, at Shanthi Kavadam in Thiruvananthapuram.

Madhavan is survived by his son, filmmaker Raja Krishna Menon, and daughter, Devika. In his later years, he resided at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram, stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with amnesia. He had also been receiving medical care since suffering a stroke in 2015.

The actor came from a prestigious background, being the son of renowned professor N.P. Pillai and holding a master’s degree in sociology. Prior to entering the film industry, Madhavan managed advertising ventures in Kolkata and Mumbai.

His acting career began at 40, with his debut in the 1975 film *Raagam*. Over the span of his impressive career, he appeared in over 600 films. Initially cast as a villain, Madhavan later transitioned to comedic roles, earning widespread acclaim for his versatility.

In addition to his film career, Madhavan also starred in television serials before health issues took him away from the limelight.

For his contributions to Malayalam cinema, he was honored with the prestigious Prem Nazir and Ramu Karyat Awards. Madhavan was briefly selected for the Indian Army, though an injury forced him to withdraw. Beyond acting, he played a pivotal role as the first General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
