Varun Dhawan Shares How David Dhawan Almost Kicked Him Out of the Car in London for Saying Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Was “Cooler” Than Bade Miyan Chote Miya

In a recent interview with *Indian Express*, Varun Dhawan shared a humorous story about a clash with his father, filmmaker David Dhawan, over his admiration for Karan Johar’s *Kuch Kuch Hota Hai*. Both *Kuch Kuch Hota Hai* and David Dhawan’s *Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan*, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda, were released on the same day, October 16, 1998. While both films were popular, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s romantic drama quickly surpassed *Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan* at the box office and gained iconic status among audiences.

Varun recounted how, as a young boy, he found *Kuch Kuch Hota Hai* to be “cooler” than his father’s film. During the London premiere of *Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan*, the Dhawan family was riding in a limousine adorned with the film’s stars, Govinda and Amitabh Bachchan. Despite the fanfare surrounding his father’s movie, young Varun couldn’t hide his excitement for *Kuch Kuch Hota Hai* and expressed his admiration for the film.

This didn’t sit well with David Dhawan, who jokingly threatened to leave Varun on the streets of London if he didn’t stop praising Johar’s movie. Varun recalled his father’s reaction, saying, “He was so annoyed with me and even said, ‘Why did I bring him here?’” Varun defended himself, humorously telling his father that he couldn’t treat children this way, especially in a foreign country. The exchange reveals Varun’s youthful enthusiasm for Johar’s film and his candid, playful relationship with his father, even as a child.
