Udta Punjab: Showcasing Censor Board’s BASELESS Demands!

As reported earlier, the Censor Board wanted the makers to remove 'Punjab' from the title of the film 'Udta Punjab' and to not have the Shahid Kapoor starrer set in the state! Reports also suggested that the Censor Board refused to issue a certificate to the Abhishek Chaubey-directed film, and the Revising Committee of Censor Board gave even harsher suggestions to the makers, in order to obtain the certificate! According to latest reports, it seems the row surrounding the release of 'Udta Punjab' is not going to end anytime soon. The Censor Board has asked the 'Udta Punjab' makers to put a disclaimer saying that they acknowledge the work done by Punjab government and police to eradicate drugs. The board has also asked for the deletion of the signboard of Punjab at the beginning of the film. It has asked for the removal of all visuals and dialogue references to Punjab, Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Taran Taran, Jashanpur, Ambesar and Moga. According to the Censor Board, the words 'election', 'MP' and 'MLA' should also be removed along with the close-up shots of drugs being injected. The board wants the abuses to be removed and also want the dog in the movie to be renamed. The Abhishek Chaubey directorial is set in Punjab and deals with the issue of drug abuse in the state. Meanwhile, Bollywood came out strongly in support of 'Udta Punjab'. The actors and filmmakers addressed a press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday and condemned the Censor Board. Top Bollywood directors Mahesh Bhatt, Imtiaz Ali, Satish Kaushik, Sudhir Mishra and Ramesh Taurani along with 'Udta Punjab' actors Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt tore into CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani's defence for ordering 89 cuts in the film! Here's a list of 'some' of the cuts the Censor Board has demanded: 1. Cut: Delete the signboard of Punjab in the beginning 2. Delete the name of cities like Punjab, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Tarn Taran and more (All reference of Punjab cities in the dialogues/songs, anywhere in the film should be removed) 3. From Song Number 1: Name of a drug (References to drug nowhere) 4. Words from song 3 (Delete the word 'Chitta' from the song). 6. Delete Abuses. 7. Delete the word elections, MP, party, Party Worker, MLA, Punjab parliament (No references: no govt rep references) (38 mins). 8. Song no:3 Delete the scene of a scratching Sardar. 9. Censor board wants long disclaimers like: The film focuses on the rising menace of drugs and the war against drugs and is an attempt effects of drugs. We acknowledge the battle against drugs being fought by govt and police but it can't be won unless people of India unite against this menace.
