Story:
The film revolved around four different characters who directly or indirectly intertwined together with Drugs. Shahid Kapoor plays a drug addict rockstar in the movie, Alia Bhatt essays a Bihari migrant girl role, Kareena Kapoor Khan plays a doctor and Diljit Dosanjh characterised the role of a Punjab police officer. The story starts in a non-linear way and ended by showing the darker side of the Drug issue in Punjab.
Plot:
Shahid Kapoor played a rockstar role of Tommy Singh Aka Gabru, who takes drugs now and then. There are bunch of his friends who always record his insane acts and upload it online. Shahid Kapoor’s character is so cynic that he does some random stuff and even goes on to abuse people. On the other side, Alia Bhatt as Bihari Migrant has done the justice with the role. She flew in to Punjab in order to be a hockey player but with the problem of money, she starts working in a farm nearby border. She even got a hold over a packet of drugs which she want to sell to earn big money. Eventually she get into a trap of drug dealer and since then her miserable life starts. Diljit Dosanjh was quite promising as a Punjab Police officer who takes bribes in order to pass the Lorries and Trucks filled with Drugs. Though, he wants to change himself as a good cop and fight with drug issue when his small brother was literally about to die in the movie by in taking drugs. Diljit met Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is a doctor and even runs a rehabilitation centre. Diljit and Kareena become a bit close in the movie when they both started to fight it out against the drug menace in Punjab. The whole movie roams around the four pivotal characters and looks good overall. Satish Kaushik was also effective in a role of ‘Tayaji’.
Direction, Music, and Screenplay:
Abhishek Chaubey was very impressive in his direction skills. His non-linear style of direction has literally will make you remind of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s 2006 Hollywood movie ‘Babel’. These were few scenes were very disturbing in the movie, especially, when Alia Bhatt’s character was raped. The overall drug issue has highlighted well in the film with a clear message. The music is a plus point of the movie. Though, all the four songs were in Punjabi words and tone but it were very soothing to the ears. After the end of the movie, ‘Chitta Ve’ and ‘Ikk Kudi’ are the songs which will get stored in back of your memory for few more days. The screenplay of the movie has amazed me and it is really a plus point for the movie. I really liked realistic sense of visuals in this movie as you can easily connect with the visuals.
The last word:
The film will surely turn out to be a cult movie for the long run. This film has many fresh elements in it with a realistic touch. Alia Bhatt was at its best in the movie. A must watch movie for the youth. Though it has a lot many cuss words in the movie but it was not senseless at all. So go for it without thinking again.
