Shakti Mohan: From Contestant to a Mentor

Dance would be an understatement. Most of the times, it’s an attempt to claim every inch of the stage through visual combinations of hand formations, street style, crumping; Bharatnatyam, Ballet or even Bhangra. Other times, it’s an attempt to set the stage on fire, blow the judge’s mind and the like. While dancing sounds tough, choreographing is even tougher.“It’s not easy, I have to work on their songs, decide the costumes, look after their rehearsals, and see if they’ve eaten well. It’s a lot of work,” shares Shakti Mohan of the transition from a contestant to a mentor with Star Plus’ new offering Dance +.

A dance reality show conjures up inevitable images of acrobats in the name of dance, vocal jury and comic anchors. Till she promises, “Everyone in this show will get a chance to perform and improve for six weeks. Nobody will be eliminated and the most important thing is that we’ll not ask a Bharatnatyam dancer to do contemporary number. We’ll not ask any contestant to change their style. They retain their style through out the show.”
