Raees VS Kaabil: Day 12 Box Office Collection!
Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam-starrer Kaabil has proved to be the proverbial tortoise in the box office race, slowly but steadily taking a lead on Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. Although SRK’s film became the first film of 2017 to join the Rs 100 crore club, Kaabil joined the bandwagon in its second weekend. Kaabil also left Raees behind in the daily collection on day 11.
However, even though Kaabil had a fantastic opening in Pakistan, where it saw a solo release, Raees has been the clear winner when it comes to overseas collection. SRK’s gangster drama has already touched the Rs 275 crore mark worldwide, reaching another milestone.

Pakistani actor Mahira Khan, who made her debut with Raees, said at the press conference held to celebrate the success of the film (which she attended via video conferencing) that she thought the film would make Rs 100 crore on its opening day itself! However, SRK and the makers of Raees are happy with the box office performance of the film, which is inching closer to the Rs 150 crore mark.
Shah Rukh Khan, who plays bootlegger-turned-MLA Raees Alam in the film, said that it was unfair to compare his film with the last releases of the other Khans, Salman and Aamir. He added that Dangal and Sultan were possibly bigger hits than Raees could be, and said that he was happy that his film was being well-received.
Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan is also happy with the performance of his film, which was his fourth highest opener at the box office. Given that his last film Mohenjo Daro did not fare so well in the face of a clash (it had clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Rustom), the actor is happy with Kaabil.
While Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of Gujarati bootlegger Raees Alam (said to be inspired by real-life don Abdul Lateef) has received a thumbs up from the audience, Hrithik’s performance as a blind mimicry artiste has been hailed by critics as his career best and the film has picked up massively since its opening day.
