Ayushmann Khurana gave Pallavi tips on the Punjabi dialect used in the film
Mumbai: Pallavi Sharda is quite a perfectionist when it comes to work.
Keen to get the nuances of her role right and to ensure that her own Punjabi identity comes shining through, ‘Gulabo’ absorbed the nuances of the language and mastered the dialect completely with help from her father and some timely tips from Ayushmann.

Pallavi was not content with the Punjabi she already knew, and took to her friend Ayushmann Khurana who gave her some helpful tips.

Says Pallavi Sharda, “Since my grandmother was born in Hoshiarpur, I know the language well. Inspite of living in Australia, at home we all speak in Hindi. My role in Begum Jaan demanded extremely authentic Punjabi. I took help from my father at times while practicing the dialogues. I still felt I needed to get better at it, that’s when I picked up the phone and called Ayushmann to cross check if my Punjabi was authentic as I was translating the Hindi dialogues to Punjabi for a particularly tough scene. The Chandigarh boy- as I call him- used to converse with me in Punjabi on the sets of my last Hindi film, and this time too he made sure I got the nuances right. He is an absolute sweetheart and was great to get confidence from someone who is so proficient in the language.”

Pallavi has surely mastered the language and this is quite evident in the Begum Jaan trailer as well. She further states, “My paternal grandmother being from the Bajwada district in Hoshiarpur and my paternal grandfather born in Amritsar but from Gurdaspur, I really wanted to pay homage to this part of my heritage & I am glad to have done that through the character of Gulabo.”

Directed by Srijit Mukherji and Produced by Vishesh Films & Play Entertainment, Begum Jaan is scheduled to release in theatres on April 14th, 2017.
