An army or land force is a fighting force that fights primarily on land. Whenever it is heard, most of the people think of American Marines, Navy Seal, and other American Special Forces. But, do you know, we have our own Indian Special Forces which are among the best in the world?

Yes, these 8 Indian special forces are among the best in the world.

  1. MARCOS Or Marine Commandos

It is not so easy to get passed in the test if you want to join MARCOS. They are super-experts in maritime warfare.  More than 80 percent of the applicants drop out in the first, three-day long, physical fitness and aptitude test.

They need to go through a five week long process called the ‘hell’s week’ where they are put through extreme sleep deprivation coupled with the most difficult physical tasks. If they could survive there, then these commandos will be capable of firing while lying down, standing, running full-sprit, even backward and looking into a mirror.

  1. Para Commandos

They are supposed to be physically fit, mentally robust, intelligent and highly motivated soldiers are inducted in the fleet. Highly trained in terrain and environment warfare and deep sea diving.

They are extremely fatal nature of the operations they perform, and so they are kept at an optimum level of operational efficiency and physical fitness.

  1. Garud Commando Force

A unit of the Indian Air Force and specializes in Airfield Seizure, Special Reconnaissance, Airborne Operations, Air Assault, Special Operations Combat Search and Rescue, and counter insurgency.

It takes up to 3 years for a operational Garud to fully qualify. But they are extremely skilled at anti-hijack and counter insurgency training, snow survival techniques and advanced driving skills.

  1. Ghatak Force

As they face the enemy face-to-face, only the most physically and mentally fit soldiers make it into the Ghatak force which is usually 20-men strong. They act as shock troops and lead man-to-man assaults ahead of a battalion.

They are also experts at directing artillery and air attacks on targets deep within enemy lines.

  1. National Security Guard Or Black Cats

In 1986, Black Cats fall neither under Central Armed Police Forces nor under Paramilitary Forces of India. It’s a mix of commandos from both the Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces.

There are two units like the Special Action Group (SAG) and the Special Ranger Groups (SRG) for counter terrorism activities

  1. COBRA

COBRA commandos are masters of camouflage, jungle warfare, parachute jumps, precision strikes and ambushes. Their sniper units are also one of the best among the armed forces of India.

  1. Special Frontier Force

The SFF is a paramilitary special force which specializes in special reconnaissance, direct action, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, unconventional warfare and covert operations.

This specialized force was created in the wake of another Sino-Indian war and it operates in sync with RAW.

  1. Force One

The Government of Maharashtra brought together the best commandos and assembled the youngest Indian special force called Force One.

This squad is to protect the Mumbai metropolitan area when under threat. Force One is one of the fastest response teams in the world and can get ready for action in less than 15 minutes.
