It is a known fact that when a veteran actor and director’s reunite the result is a mass entertainer. So when the Chinese super star Jacky Chan and acclaimed director Stanley Tong come together with a unique amalgamation of Indian and Chinese heritages, what we have is entertaining joy ride with an ensemble cast. Jacky Chan, the expert in Kung Fu, comes to India with a mission and what he gets here is new revelations about life and world. But having said that the film is no preachy affair, in fact it is simply an extravaganza of visuals and sounds. Kung Fu Yoga is an attempt to bring together Yoga and Kung Fu while the leading characters of the story embark on a deeper mission of exploring the lost Indian Magadha treasure in Tibet.

Jack , played by Jacky Chan , is an archaeology professor who is on a mission to locate a lost treasure. This mission gradually turns out to be a very adventurous one as it gets entangled in a messy plot leaving Jack and his team saving their lives with fights and tricks. The story is not set in the present scenario alone but it also has Chan playing a historical figure Wang Xuance in 647 A.D. He was a Chinese dynasty envoy to the Magadha kingdom. He was killed in an Avalanche thus losing the treasure that he was carrying with him to Tibet. Now in the present, Professor Jack has his team consisting of professor Ashmita ( Disha Patani) and her assistant Kyra (Amyra Dastur) and few others. Interestingly, Chan played a similar character with the same name in the 2005 film Myth which was Stanley Tong’s last film as a movie director.

The other prime character of the  Kung Fu Yoga are Jones ( Aarif Lee Rahman ) and Jianhua (Eric Tsang) join Jack’s team in search of the treasure under the thick carpet of ice on the Kunlun mountains. Soon after that the characters also reach Dubai where a precious gemstone by Bhima is being auctioned and there lies the climax of the story.

The disappointing part of the film Kung Fu Yoga is that it does not stay loyal to the amalgamation of Indian and Chinese themes. There is obviously more weighing on Chinese aspects so it will be right to say that there is more Kung Fu than Yoga in the movie. It may also imply that there is more action in the movie than thoughts and planning. Talking about performances Jacky Chan definitely stands out with his seasoned acting and fighting skills. Sonu Sood is another actor who stands out from the rest. He plays the role of a descendant of the Arunsva dynasty and a warrior. He is sure to impress the Indian and international audience. For the oomph and the sparks we have Disha Patani and Amyra Dastur. Both the girls look gorgeous while they play the intelligent professor assistant duo.

On the technical side the film does not offer anything great but we must say it does not allow the audience to even blink with it’s grand extravaganza style. The plot is definitely gripping and engaging for audience of all ages whether or not you are a Jacky Chan fan or not.
