Hats off to lawyer Deepika Rajawat to fight Asifa’s case against all odds !
Honestly truthfully and frankly speaking, 8 year old rape victim Asifa’s case in Kathua in India has once again managed to shook us and is becoming a constant topic of discussions and debates across the entire world and nation wide as well because we had never even thought that something like this will happen in our Indian society.
What’s sad, damn disgusting and utterly shameful to note and know is that some sick minded mentality people are completely in favour and just blindly supporting the rapists just because the 8 year old girl was a ”MUSLIM”. Is our Indian society so scattered, splitted up and divided that we should bring petty things like religion in between such important issues?
However the truth be told, in midst of this on going case currently becoming a hot topic of discussion literally there’s one very head strong and determined lady who is fighting the case very bravely and successfully is battling against all odds for ensuring that justice is given to Asifa’s family and death penalty be given to the rapists for the same by the Supreme Court of India. Yes, we are talking about lawyer Deepika Rajawat (38), who is an activist and law practitioner that can go to any extent to get justice for Asifa. Since Deepika is a mother of a 5 year old, she understands the pain and has taken up the case despite all the warnings and the threats being given to her by the rapist’s.
In the month of February, she had approached Asifa’s father Mohammad Akhtar and vocally just expressed her desire and wish to fight the case for his daughter to ensure that his daughter gets complete justice for the same. She is the main chairperson of “Voice for Rights”, an NGO that fights for human rights of children and women.
She helped Asifa’s father file an application in the High Court and had totally just stood with him throughout the legal procedure. Also, she provided assistance in transferring the case to Crime Branch.
Rajawat has been receiving many death related threats for fighting this case but her determination and will is too strong. In an interview with a news channel, Rajawat said,
”I am not at all feeling even a little bit scared, but I am not feeling safe or sound either. Protesters and other such people (lawyers) are trying to put immense and huge pressure on me so that I don’t fight for Asifa’s justice in the court and becoming coward is not what or who I am. But I will continue to fight for Asifa’s case in the court. I have a lot of trust and immense faith in the police investigation.”
Luckily Deepika Rajawat has been given security and protection by the High Court. Actually High Court had issued a security letter i.e. she will always be protected during her appearances in the court in regards to fighting the case and even in public places too.
She was even literally just threatened to stay away from the case during the lawyers strike. She said,
”I really don’t know the time span or duration of how long I will be alive. Even I can be raped by those rapists or others. My modesty can be outraged and be contaminated due to the same thing as well. I can even be killed, I can be damaged too. I was threatened yesterday that ‘we will not forgive you’. I am going to tell the Supreme Court tomorrow that I am in danger”.
She has hope in herself and surely feels that she will be successful ultimately in giving justice to Asifa’s family.
