Chetan Bhagat reveals how Vidhu Vinod Chopra almost drove him to commit suicide

One of the most loved authors from the Indian league of writers is Chetan Bhagat. Several Bollywood movies were made based on his books. In a recent Tweet, Chetan Bhagat allegedly held Vidhu Vinod Chopra who is the producers of 3 Idiots the film based on one of Chetan’s books, responsible for publicly bullying him when the film was set to release back in 2009. Chetan Bhagat’s famous book Five Point Someone was the script of the film.

Chetan tweeted on the issue saying,

“Sushant’s last film releases this week. I want to tell the snob and elitist critics right now, write sensibly. Don’t act oversmart. Don’t write rubbish. Be fair and sensible. Don’t try your dirty tricks. You have ruined enough lives. Now stop. We’ll be watching (sic).”

The Twitter banter soon began when film critic Anupama Chopra retweeted Bhagat’s post and captioned, “Each time you think the discourse can’t get lower, it does (sic)”. This made the conversation turn towards 3 Idiots produced by Anupama’s husband and the controversy associated with it in 2009.

3 idiots

Chetan quickly tweeted upon Vinod Chopra’s deeds towards him and wrote,

“Ma’am, when your husband publicly bullied me, shamelessly collected all the best story awards, tried denying me credit for my story and drove me close to suicide, and you just watched, where was your discourse? (sic),”

Released in 2009, the Amir Khan starrer 3 Idiots won almost all the awards in the same year and went to grt huge success at the box office. The author of the book Chetan had said that time,

“It’s fine that they’ve given me credit in the rolling credits, but how can they not give me credit for the story? The film is based on my book, they have to give me [credit].”

Reacting to Chetan’s allegations, the director of the film Rajkumar Hirani had made it very clear that Bhagat did receive his share of credit.

“According to the contract, it clearly says that Chetan will be given credit in the rolling credit, which comes at the end of the film. He is lying when he says that his name comes after the junior artists, his name is after the main artists of the movie. See the movie to believe me”.
