Box Office – Brothers has Akshay Kumar’s Biggest opening of the year
After bringing in 51 crore over the weekend, Brothers brought in over 20 crore more in the rest of the week. As a result, the film now stands over 72.6 crore at the Box Office. Of course more was expected from the film, considering the credentials involved. Still, this is the second biggest week of the year (after Bajrangi Bhaijaan) as it ties with ABCD 2 (72 crore) and is better than Tanu Weds Manu Returns (71 crore).
For Akshay Kumar, this is his Biggest opening of the year after Gabbar Is Back (60 crore) and Baby (64 crore – eight day week). The star-actor has been staying consistent as far as Box Office opening is concerned. However, since the Karan Malhotra directed film met with a mixed response amongst audience, the collections couldn’t hold, due to which Brothers is not turning out to be a big grosser. Nevertheless, Akshay has now moved on to Singh Is Bliing which would be his first light hearted film this year and would cater to larger family audiences. Sidharth too has his next release catering to families in the form of Kapoor and Sons in March 2016.
Karan Malhotra and Karan Johar would now be kick-starting Shuddhi next. The film is as big as it gets and with Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt coming on board, there are huge expectations from it.
Note: All collections as per production and distributor sources
