Indians rigorously follow Bollywood whether we talk about copying dance step to styling yourself we all follow Bollywood. Movies come and go but what leaves is an impact and some set of trends. Bollywood is more than a source of entertainment. Bollywood broke the set rules for good and also succeeded in making way for the audience’s hearts and influence audience in a way.

Well, how many of you planned to go on a trip with your friends after watching “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”?  How many of you bought Salman Khan’s aviators like the one he wore in “Dabangg”? How many of you roam triple on a bike after watching “3 Idiots”?

Well, it is not just you, but a majority of the audience who does such things. But have you ever wondered which was the first films who brought all the trend in the first place?

The concept of Bollywood began in 1913.

The most important part of Indian cinema is the first ever silent film of Dadasaheb Phalke the Father of Indian Cinema in 1913. Raja Harishchandra was also the first biopic ever made in Indian cinema.

Later, Ardeshir Irani brought Alam Ara in 1931. Alam Ara was the first sound film of India which was also a major commercial success. These films were the only stepping stone which transformed into Indian cinema and later gave birth to Bollywood.

The first superstar of Indian cinema was Ashok Kumar and it was Kismet that gave him this title.

Kismet came in 1943. The film has written history in many ways. Yes, this was the first big hit and the first blockbuster in the history of Hindi cinema. It was the first film that brought bold characters, i.e., an anti-hero with two roles and an unmarried girl who gets pregnant.

Not just this, it was Kismet that introduced double-role acting in Indian cinema.

Dil Chahta Hai is all about the bond between friends, friendship goals and Goa trips! After watching “Dil Chahta Hai” most of the guys actually plan a trip to Goa with their BFFs. And this how trend this set. here, whenever trips are made with friends I am sure goa will be in your list you wanted to visit.

Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chahta Hai was probably one of the first friendship films for our generation to look forward to. Three buddies, one road trip. Only this was enough to get this movie sold but the movie has to offer a lot more. The movie is about three varying personalities having fun and at the same time trying to figure out their life, their future. It made Goa famous and road trips, fancy! Definitely, a trendsetter!

Wake Up Sid

Ranbir Kapoor can do any role with the same intensity and passion. As shown in movie Sid ( Ranbir Kapoor ) was a boy who loves clicking pictures in childhood and that’s the way he finds his hobby to inspire to work forwards as a photographer. Whatever role he plays, he makes you feel that is how he is in his normal life; this is his power on-screen. And this is what he established with Wake Up Sid. Our generation loves the movie because it is relatable and the character is easy to connect to.

Hera Pheri

Hera Pheri gave us Priyadarshan! Don’t wonder why I count Priyadarshan as a trend. Obviously, if we wouldn’t have had Priyadarshan, we wouldn’t have had Hungama, Garam Masala, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, De Dana Dan, Hulchul, Billu, Bhagam Bhag, Chup Chup Ke, Malamaal Weekly and many epic comic cult blockbusters. It would have been a serious loss for Indian cinema.

Munna Bhai MBBS

Munna Bhai MBBS movie gave us a NEW Sanjay Dutt and the very talented Rajkumar Hirani. Before, Sanjay Dutt had just one reputation, that of a Gangster. But then a miracle aka Rajkumar Hirani happened. What most of the people don’t know is that Munna Bhai MBBS was Hirani’s first film in Bollywood, and since then all of his films have been commercially successful blockbusters.

The Rajkumar Hirani we all know today, the one who always surprises the audience with his rare and path-breaking films, got into Bollywood with Munna Bhai MBBS.

Rang De Basanti

The thing that people didn’t know about the film is that it was Rang De Basanti that introduced the popular trend of candle march. Rang De Basanti is that Bollywood film which encouraged many young minds to get into patriotism. Some say that more youth were involved in Anna Hazare movement due to Rang De Basanti movie. The film is a perfect blend of how a few modern minds who in one scene played fun-loving college kids, in the other scene played fighters, brave enough to stand against the centre.

More than being a blockbuster, the film created a social impact, for which it is remembered till date. Screenwriter Kamlesh Pandey once said, “As long as the State remains the enemy of the nation and politics keep killing its young, ‘Rang De Basanti’ will remain relevant.”  And it broke the conventional way of filmmaking and came out to be shining.

Dev D

Anurag Kashyap is a dirty, violent, dark, badass director who took Bollywood by a storm with his all-kinds-of-drama-films. Dev D was one such original piece in which he brought such extravagant music effects which no one has ever seen before. He then used similar styles in his other movies like Gulaal and Mukkabaaz.

Maqbool

Maqbool is a movie from which the trend of a film inspired by literature. But did you know who was the first man in Bollywood to start this trend?

Well, it was none other than Director Vishal Bhardwaj who brought Maqbool in 2003. Maqbool was a crime tragedy starring Pankaj Kapur, Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Masumeh Makhija, adapted from Macbeth, a play by Shakespeare.

Be its concept of Mumbai underworld, the characterization of the stars, its dark cinematography, the sexual tension, or its still-remembered-dialogues, Maqbool gave India a rare glance of a masterpiece made in the most common genre of Bollywood, underworld.

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke

Chori Chori Chupke Chupke was among the first few Bollywood films that talked about the taboo of Surrogacy. In India, it is challenging to talk about the taboos, because people here take offence pretty early.

Indian filmmakers are over-stubborn. Yes, an issue which in today’s world is still a taboo, i.e., surrogacy, Abbas-Mastan in 2001 made a film on it. Starring Salman Khan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta in the major roles, Abbas-Mastan brought Chori Chori Chupke Chupke which was a commercial success, surprisingly.

Now, the reason I said surprisingly is that before this film, another surrogacy film was released. It was Doosri Dulhan, but it wasn’t a success at all. Critics said it’s because it was way too ahead of its time.

 Fashion

Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion was a deep insight into the modelling industry and the minds of the models. Staying true to the plight of the models in the country, Priyanka and Kangana portray their characters with utmost honesty and finesse. The movie was a pleasant change for the viewers who were long waiting to see something different than the old action and new run-off-the-mills.
