Bhumi Pednekar is the actress who played the female lead in the movie Dum Laga Ke Haisha in 2016 . It was Bhumi’s debut before which she had acted in few TV serials and ad films. In Dum Laga ke Haisha, she acted opposite Ayushman Khurana. The film got a lukewarm response at the box office but was critically acclaimed for performances. Bhumi got special appreciation for her natural acting in the role of Sandhya.

Bhumi Pednekar was born on 18 July 1985 in Mumbai Maharashtra. Based in Mumbai, Bhumi’s father is a Maharashtrian while she is a Haryanvi from her mother’s side.  She studied in Arya Vidya Mandir in the city before venturing into assistant direction in Yash Raj Films. As she was always inclined towards films and acting, the actress started working as assistant director right after completion of her higher studies but little did she know that she would venture into film acting one day. Bhumi was a plump girl when the directors met her but for the role of Sandhay , she was required to gain more weight. Later Bhumi said in an interview that gaining weight was not difficult for her as she was always a foodie.

Bhumi’s won appreciation from all quarters for her work in Dum Laga ke Haisha which was set in a rural background. She was noted for her natural and subtle style which made her very relatable for the audience. The chemistry between Ayushman and Bhumi was adorable. Bhumi lost weight and got into the glamour avatar even before the release o the film. Her glamour appearance was quite a contrast to the role. She swept away all the awards for best debutant in 2016.

Reportedly the actress has signed a three films deal with Yash Raj films. She is presently working on Manmarziyaan, Toilet : Ek Prem Katha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.
