#FilmymantraQA – Can Bajrangi Bhaijaan beat PK? [@Pankaj_Rajygyru]
No, it won’t. PK had netted 338 crore in its final theatrical run in India and Bajrangi Bhaijaan would have to settle down around 315-320 crore mark. That said, before jumping to any conclusions, let’s see some of the facts as Bajrangi Bhaijaan reaching till this point is superb too.
Read on!
It has to be noted that on its release, PK was a one horse race. Before its arrival, biggies like Action Jackson, Ungli, Happy Ending and Kill Dil had all flopped badly. In fact the last money-spinner before it was Happy New Year, which means audience had been waiting for almost two months to get a good film. Then post its release, it had a free run as Lingaa, Tevar and Alone – all flopped in quick succession. It practically had no competition for it till Akshay Kumar’s Baby arrived five weeks after its arrival.
On the other hand Bajrangi Bhaijaan had a lot to compete with week after week. Baahubali was still going strong when it released. In fact while it totally dominated the market down South, even in rest of the country it is continuing to do great business till date and has netted around 110 crore, which has proven to be a dent in Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s overall collections. Moreover, there is also competition from Drishyam which has netted over 50 crore already and is on way to score around 65-70 crore. Also, after its four week run, Brothers hits the screens and that would mean an almost end of run for the Salman Khan starrer.
If not for such competition which has proven to be worth over 175 crore at the least, Bajrangi Bhaijaan could have even made a dash towards the 350 crore mark, but for now even a 320 crore total is an excellent achievement indeed.
The film is an All Time Blockbuster and now only the second film ever in the 300 crore club.
