Aadhaar card has been a huge topic of discussion. Everyone has different views on Aadhaar, however, there is a very good news for the government. According to the CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India, Ajay Bhushan Pandey, more than 500 missing children have been found in last few months with the help of Aadhaar.
Ajay Bhushan Pandey was speaking at the Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS) 2017. He said, “Over the last few months, more than 500 missing children have been identified through Aadhaar,”
Talking further about the same, he said that this happened in situations, where the missing child went to an orphanage and underwent Aadhaar enrolment. When he/ she go through the enrolment, it shows that their Aadhaar card is already made. That’s how these missing kids are found.
On a lighter note, he said that the script of some Bollywood classics, where siblings were separated and reunited after a long time should be re-written with Aadhaar.
India is a country, where the number of children is highest in the world. According to Census, more than 40 percent of 1.2 billion population of the country is under the age of 18. According to CRY (Child Rights and You), the number of children went missing and remained untraced all over the country increased by almost 84 percent between the year 2013 and 2015.
According to the government data, almost 180 children go missing every day. Talking further about the benefits of Aadhaar, Pandey said that it has helped in saving more than $10 billion, as the linkage of Aadhaar to various government scheme has removed “ghosts and duplicates” from the systems.
