Goa, October 6, 2016: Oddjoint, along with Amara Muzik, Idyabooster and Starfire Movies, announce the release of the soundtrack of LUDO, the arthouse horror film by Nikon and Q that had an excellent run at international festivals.
Gorom Laage, a background track from the film also has a promotional item song featuring Feryna Wazheir and Suyasha Sengupta. The arthouse item number also happens to be the first of its kind directed by Q, aka Doktorgandu , known for his cult productions like Gandu and Brahman Naman. Q, is notorious for his subversive storytelling and non-conformist treatment of films.
Ludo is co-produced by Idyabooster and Starfire Movies and the Song Gorom Laage has been released by Amara Muzik Bengali youtube channel.
Item numbers are generally misogynist tools of promoting mainstream films. For a film like LUDO, an item song became, for me, a vehicle of satire. So the GOROM LAAGE song really encapsulates the fun and the irony of these videos for me. Making it was a blast. As usual we did it for next to no money, keeping up the fine tradition that was practiced in LUDO as well. Neel, Feryna and Suyasha were dreamboats to work with, and totally got the sarcasm. – said Q.
The teaser for Gorom Laage has been released on YouTube, with the full song release, due later this week. Feryna Wazheir who has been introduced as “Boiling Babe” in the video oozes sensuality and adds raw appeal to the video in a way only she could have. When asked how it was to be working with Q, she bursts into a fit of laughter “Working with Q was a completely new experience for me. Interesting and quite crazy! In a world where each of our lip and hip movements are decided weeks in advance, Q has his actors do it all on set. This definitely gave me some panic attacks – I learnt to speak Bengali (as far as the song is concerned) within some half a day, improvised dance moves and even learnt to keep an impassive face with a mouth full of hot sauce! Everyone’s very pleased with how the video has come out. I guess that is where the genius that is Q shines through!”
The track has been composed by Neel Adhikari, who has worked with Q on the music of most of his films, and DoktorGandu himself. They have been collaborating as Gandu Circus since 2011. “With Q, change IS the only constant. It’s never the same thing he wants and as a result, now I’ve also done an item number. An arthouse item number, for that matter! It is things like these that makes us keep
coming back to the act, Gandu Circus – this particular track has helped me shed many inhibitions. Not to mention, Suyasha was purrfect like the cat that she is! adds Neel. Suyasha Sengupta of Ganesh Talkies from Kolkata, has not only lent her voice to the track but has also added oomph to the video.
