Bollywood Movies often have a habit of revealing the whole story at the start of it. End number of Indian movies which you have seen, you will realize that at the first 5 minutes only we know the story and what going to happen at the end. Over the years Bollywood has evolved a lot and even a lot many genres are now being experimented by the filmmakers. As the audience tastes are changing and they are demanding more from the movie, so the makers have a pressure to give something more to the audience. In the past few years, we have seen many complexed movies which are different from the other mainstream movies have been released. These movies are often low budgeted or it had a very weird story in it. These movies are so difficult to understand that you need to see them again to understand it. These movies are often made for the movie fanatics who really engrossed into cinema in a big way. Though these movies are critically acclaimed but it didn’t click the audience. We have ensemble a list of 13 Bollywood movies that are some or other way got mixed response from the audience and mostly it tanked at Box-Office: No Smoking (2007) I bet, you will never have seen such path-breaking the movie in the Indian Cinema before. ‘No Smoking’ movie stand tall when we talk about the cult intellectual movies made in India. This neo-noir thriller had everything in it which the normal audience don’t want to see. This is the best of John Abraham at the start of his career. Director Anurag Kashyap has surprised the film fanatics in the year 2007 with this experimental cinema, at a time when the audience were mostly glued to mainstream movies. This is one of the most underrated movie of Bollywood. Only a niche audience got connected with it and the film tanked at the Box-Office City Lights (2014) One of the best creative directors in Bollywood, Hansal Mehta has surprised the audience in a big way with City Lights. This emotional drama starred Rajkumar Rao and Patralekha, based on the adaptation of British movie ‘Metro Manila’. The film talks about the emotional hardships of a couple and it had been shot beautifully by Hansal Mehta. At the end, the critics loved it but the audience didn’t find the movie of their type. Dhobi Ghat (2010) Since the promotional phase only, Aamir Khan cleared it that it’s not a mainstream movie and only made for a niche audience. The story of the movie was very complexed and that’s the reason why the audience couldn’t got there connect with it. The movie revolves around four different characters who are linked with one common thread. Just a hyperbola movie for the common audience but critics did liked the Kiran Rao directorial movie. Talaash (2012) Aamir Khan starrer movie Talaash is yet another thriller that was not well received by the audiences. Some section of the audience does love the twist in the film while many were didn’t find it right. Directed by Reema Kagti, the film did surprise the niche audience and critics. The film talks about Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) who investigates a popular film star's death. Before he tries to solve the complicated case, he has to face his grief and deal with Rosie - a sex worker and murderer. The twisted story didn’t connect well with the audience and the film failed miserably at the Box-Office Tamasha (2015) Imtiaz Ali’s current take on urban love tragedy ‘Tamasha’ didn’t get its due from the audience. As the major section of the audience find the movie emotionally draining and slow. Only the niece audience understand the beautiful direction of the movie and the understand the sensibilities of Imtiaz Ali. Tamasha was well received by critics and did an average business at the Box-Office. Lootera (2013) A poetic movie of Ranveer and Sonakshi starrer ‘Lootera’ was turned flop at the Box-Office even after their brilliant performances. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the film was poetic with its location, costume and dialogue wise. Those who understand the movie did praised it and most of it called it a crap. 7 Khoon Maaf (2011) Vishal Bharadwaj movies always have thrives on Crime based stories. Most of his movies are the Hindi adaptation of the Shakespeare’s novel or it is related to the crime related stories. One of the movies that he directed with Priyanka Chopra was ‘7 Khoon Maaf’. The story was so complexed that it didn’t have into audience head and the movie was turned into a flop affair. It was only appreciated by Film fanatics. Guzaarish (2010) Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish was an emotionally draining film and couldn’t able to connect with the Hrithik and Aishwarya's fans. The film was so slow and confusing that it turned a Box-Office disaster. Except certain section of the audience, the movie has remained underrated. Overall, it a beautiful movie with a good story. Rockstar (2011) Before Tamasha movie, Imtiaz Ali also directed a musical movie entitled ‘Rockstar’. The core of the story was about painful love where Ranbir Kapoor played the Rockstar character which was supported by female lead Nargis Fakhri. Ranbir did shine in the movie but Nargis failed to impress the audience. In totality, the film was met with mixed reviews where certain section only praised the movie. The movie was actually beautifully directed. Saawariya (2007) It would be a difficult phase for both Ranbir and Sonam when their debut movie Saawariya tanked miserably at the Box-Office. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie was actually artistically made with full of emotions and drama. The audience didn’t like the kind of extreme emotion the movie possess and better opted for ‘Om Shanti Om’ the movie which released on the same day. The movie was liked a Broadway performance which is not so familiar with the Indian movie audience sensibilities. The Ship Of Theseus (2012) Anand Gandhi’s movie ‘Ship Of Theseus’ was a very complexed story and got over the head of the audience. Though the film was able to manage a National Film Award for Best Picture. But it got a mixed review from the audience. The movie was made more of a documentary type and didn’t have a mainstream masala element in it. So, even the audience have stayed away from this ambitious project. The movie was brilliantly made and the one who understand it loved it. Fitoor (2016) Aditya Roy Kapoor and Katrina Kaif starrer Fitoor was doomed at the Box-Office. The audience didn’t like the literature based saga but the one who understand this movie did appreciate the efforts done by Abhishek Kapoor. Aditya Roy Kapoor and Tabu were really promising in their roles, it was Katrina that falls apart in the acting. This romantic drama was artistically made with the use of beautiful locations and poetic dialogues. Though the movie turned a big time flop but it was a brilliantly made movie. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) It was one of the rare movies that talked about the problems of urban youth and their life and careers. It talks about the emotional relationships of friends and their relationships. Despite the movie was beautifully made but didn’t click with the major chunk of the audience. Those who got the story really appreciated the director Zoya Akhtar effort. This is one of my favorite movie of all time which really inspires us to make us understand the meaning of life.
