13 Hollywood Careers That Were Started By Sheer Luck

Sometimes an opportunity presents itself in the most unexpected ways and when you least expect it. Some celebrities have been discovered just out of the blue and have made it big time in Hollywood. This is a glimpse of a few stars of today who have made it because of sheer luck and a fortunate “accident”. Jennifer Lawrence: The Hunger Games star was on vacation in New York when she was asked to just pose for a photograph by a talent agent. This impromptu photograph sparked a fire and she received calls from a number of agents and she landed her iconic role in the movie “Winter’s Bone” Chris Pratt: Chris Pratt worked many odd jobs before he landed big blockbuster roles in Hollywood. He once got a ticket to Hawaii from one of his friends and practically lived out of his car since he didn’t have a place to live. Once when he was bartending Pratt was noticed by a director and was offered a role in a horrible movie. Nevertheless, The Jurassic World actor got a chance to sneak into Hollywood and subsequently into our hearts. Johnny Depp: Before Depp sailed the seven seas he once accompanied his friend to a horror movie audition. The director noticed the young husky Depp and asked him to read out a few lines from the script. Suffice to say Depp nailed it and he caught his big break in A Nightmare On Elm’s Street (1984) Natalie Portman: Natalie Portman was literally eating a pizza at a pizza parlor when she was first approached by a talent agent to feature in a Revlon ad. She was just 10. Mel Gibson: Mel Gibson engaged in a drunken fistfight at a bar before he drove his friend to a movie audition. Director George Miller asked Gibson to act out a few lines on the spot since he was all bruised and beaten up. The movie he landed was Mad Max. Evangeline Lily: The gorgeous Lord of the Rings actress was spotted by a modelling agent on the streets of Kelowna, Canada. She initially was reluctant to take the opportunity but after seeing the amount of money that could be made she accepted. Marilyn Monroe: The very talented and beautiful Marilyn Monroe initially worked in an ammunition factory. A military photographer snapped her photo for a military magazine and told her she had the potential to be a big star. These inspirational words drove her to success in Hollywood. Charlize Theron: Theron’s story is quite peculiar. She made her way into a bank in Hollywood to cash in a check and the cashier shunned her away refusing to cash the check. She flipped out and made a big hullabaloo at the bank which impressed an on looking talent agent who later gave her his card. Harrison Ford: Harrison Ford was a carpenter before he became a big name in Hollywood. It all started when he made cabinets for George Lucas who cast him in his first movie role. Ellen Pompeo: Before she was a doctor on Grey’s Anatomy she was a bartender who got noticed by a talent scout over a drink to feature in a L’Oreal advertisement campaign. Channing Tatum: The Hollywood hunk Channing Tatum was drifting the streets of Miami when he was spotted by a talent agent and asked to pose for various brands. He successively ended up modelling for many big brands and eventually landed a role in Hollywood. Will Smith: Before Will Smith was a star in Hollywood he was quite a successful rapper. But never gained any recognition for his acting skills. Once when he lost his way in a parking lot, he asked a random man to direct him. That man was the Vice President of Warner Bros. studio who went on to cast him in the famous series “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” Vin Diesel: The Fast and Furious star struggled after his college years to make a documentary about a struggling actor, which impressed quite a few people. The film was critically acclaimed and was screened at Cannes. This caught the eye of Speilberg and offered Diesel a role in his movie, “Saving Private Ryan.” You never know when an opportunity presents itself in the form of a card.
