Vidya Balan’s ‘Shakuntala Devi’ to release on Amazon Prime; Here’s what she said
As the coronavirus pandemic has taken over the entire nation, many films that were scheduled to release in theatres took the direct-to-digital approach. Several movies will now be releasing on streaming giants like Amazon Prime Video, Zee5, Netflix and so on.
Vidya Balan’s upcoming biographical drama Shakuntala Devi will also be releasing on Amazon Prime Video. On her experience about working on the film and getting to represent the mathematical prodigy, she said, “Stepping into the world of Shakuntala Devi was as intimidating as it was exhilarating. Her story is inspirational and makes you see how, if we believe in ourselves, the world is our oyster.”
Speaking about the film’s digital release, the actress said, “A direct release on the streaming platform will bring ‘Shakuntala Devi’ one step closer to audiences across the globe, where they can watch the movie at their convenience.”
The film was scheduled for a theatrical release in the month of April. However, the coronavirus pandemic brought the entire entertainment industry to a halt. While some releases got postponed, some decided to release films on OTT platforms.
The film ‘Shakuntala Devi’ is directed by Anu Menon and is based on the life of the calculating prodigy Shakuntala Devi. She was also known as the ‘human computer’ due to her extraordinary mathematical talents, through which she could solve complex problems related to the subject within seconds, without any mechanical aid.
The film is said to stream on Amazon Prime from 31 July. The trailer for the same was also released today.
