Many Bollywood celebrities Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra turned up to cast their votes yesterday, Actor Akshay Kumar remained conspicuous by his absence at the polling booth.
Akshay Kumar was making headlines only a few days ago with his “non-political” interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But the actor which has nationalistic overtones, seemed to have given voting a miss.
His wife Twinkle Khanna cast her vote at one of the booths in Juhu on Monday, but Akshay Kumar nowhere to be seen. It did not go unnoticed on social media. Last month Modi had tagged Akshay in a tweet, asking him to encourage voting. To which, Akshay had responded saying that voting has to be a superhit prem katha between our nation and its voters.
Akshay Kumar is mascot of patriotism, though he can’t vote,” one tweet said. “Asking for a friend. Which polling booth can Akshay Kumar be spotted casting his vote?” asked journalist Rana Ayyub on Twitter.
