2011 world cup has always been the best world cup for India. After all, we won the world cup playing in India. That day is still fresh in everyone’s mind. We couldn’t hold our excitement after winning the match and celebration just started. However, the final was nothing sort of a thrilling ride with lots of ups and downs and some batting changes. You may remember how MS Dhoni came ahead of Yuvraj Singh to bat in the final leaving everyone surprised. This incident was also shown in MS Dhoni’s biopic.
To those who forget let me refresh your memory. It so happened that Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag got out early, which left Indian team in disarray. However, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli played a sensational knock and took India out of danger. Then, Virat got out and everyone was thinking that Yuvi would come to bat. However, to everyone’s surprise, it was MSD who came to bat and scored a match-winning 91 runs.
Every one of us believed that this decision of promoting MSD was of the captain himself. But, it is not the truth, folks!
Yes, you read it, right! Recently, Sehwag and Sachin appeared on a chat show titled What The Duck hosted by Vikram Sathaye. During the show, Viru Paaji revealed that it was Sachin Tendulkar who suggested Dhoni to go to bat ahead of Yuvi.
His words,
“So, that was also suggested by him and this was the first time he directly passed a message to MS, otherwise it always went through Lala (himself) and the result is in front of you.”
He further added explaining the reason,
“So, finally in between MS Dhoni came in and at that time Virat Kohli and Gautam were batting. So, he told MS, if righty gets out, then go for righty and lefty gets out, go for lefty. After saying this, he went to the bathroom and then back out. And then Virat Kohli got out and in place of him, MS Dhoni went for the batting, that’s why Yuvraj Singh didn’t play on number 4 despite being in good form.”
