How Did The News of UAE Gov Donating Rs. 700 Crore For Kerala Floods Started?

Kerala suffered the worst floods in 100 years affecting the lives of several people in the God’s own country. More than 300 people lost their lives and Lakhs of them were forced to abandon their home and live in the rescue camps. Since the flood is over, the rebuilding process of Kerala is happening. Help came from all corners for the flood victims.

It is reported that more than Rs. 20,000 Crore Worth property was destroyed in the floods. It is obvious that it will take time before everything goes back to normal in Kerala. The citizens will need everything they can get in order to recover from the horrific incident.

Amidst all this, a new controversy broke out when Indian government told that it won’t be accepting any foreign aid for the rebuilding of Kerala. Reports of UAE government offering Rs. 700 Crore as an aid to Kerala flood victims. However, the Central government has politely declined the offer stating that the country will rebuild the state through internal sources.

However, UAE has refused that they have made any such offer to the Indian government. They further add that they have formed a committee, which will assess the situation in Kerala. Based on the committee’s report, they’ll decide on the amount of the aid.

This has made whole things complicated. People are wondering who started this rumor. We’ll dive deep in this whole fiasco and look how it all started.

This news originated from the Kerala government itself, when CM Pinarayi Vijayan took to Twitter to announce the news on August 21. He also added that he got this information from several sources, not from the UAE government.

He tweeted, “CM Pinarayi Vijayan informed that the United Arab Emirates will provide Kerala an assistance of ₹700 Crore. Kerala has a special relationship with UAE, which is a home away from home for Malayalees. We express our gratitude to UAE for their support. #KeralaFloodRelief”

The Chief Minister had also said that he got this news from an Indian origin businessman Yusuff Ali M.A. He further claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also knew about UAE’s Rs. 700 Crore aid from the Crown prince Of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.

It didn’t stop there, even finance minister of Kerala, Thomas Issac slammed central government by tweeting, “We asked Union Gov for financial support of ₹2200 Cr ; they grant us a precious ₹600 Cr . We make no request to any foreign gov but UAE gov voluntarily offer ₹700cr. No, says Union gov , it is below our dignity to accept foreign aid. This is a dog in the manger policy.”

Amidst all this confusion, it is now certain that UAE didn’t offer any such things. After all, the UAE government has denied it. We hope that the rumors will stop now.
