Suresh Raina’s uncle killed in a midnight attack; Cricketer opts out of IPL 2020

In shocking news, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina’s uncle has been killed in a midnight attack, while his aunt is critical in hospital.  His relatives reside in their Pathankot’s Thariyal village house.

Few unidentified assailants entered the house at wee hours of the night on August 19 and attacked the family with lethal weapons. The family members including Raina’s uncle, aunt, two cousins and his uncle’s mother were sleeping on the terrace when the crime took place.

Cricketer’s uncle Ashok Kumar died on the spot while, his aunt Asha Devi is still critical in the hospital.

A media report said, “It is being said that Asha Devi, sister of Raina’s father is fighting for her life in the hospital, while his uncle, identified as 58-year-old Ashok Kumar died in the attack. His cousins – 32-year-old Kaushal Kumar and 24-year-old Apin Kumar also sustained injuries in the attack. Deceased Ashok Kumar’s 80-year-old mother also sustained serious injuries in the attack.”

“Meanwhile, the police have paced their investigation after getting to know that the victims are the close relatives of Suresh Raina. A team of police and forensic experts have collected evidence from the spot. The police also took help from the dog squad to identify the attackers but failed to get any clue,” the report further added.

Suresh Raina, who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, took a sudden exit from the game, citing personal reasons. However, his exit is now linked with this tragic incident and it is believed that Raina came back to India to stand in support with his family members.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) management has officially informed that Raina will be returning to India due to personal reasons on Saturday.
