Supreme Court REJECTS Plea Seeking Probe Into Sridevi’s Death
On Friday, the Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking probe into the death of legendary actress Sridevi. The actress died due to accidental drowning in the bathtub in posh Dubai hotel in February 2018. The actress was in Dubai for attending a family wedding.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y.Chandrachud dismissed the plea despite senior lawyer Vikas Singh raising issues like how could a 5.7 ft tall person drown in a 5.1 ft bathtub.
Mr Singh sought that all the documents related to Sridevi’s death to be brought to India including medical and investigation done by Dubai Police. He also requested for an investigation carried out by an independent agency.
Vikas Singh further told the court that the legendary actress passed away on 24th February under suspicious circumstances. He also raised the issue of Sridevi’s insurance coverage. According to the report of NDTV, Singh argued about Sridevi’s Rs.240 Crore insurance policy in her name in Oman, which states that money will be released only if she died in UAE.
Dismissing the plea, the Chief Justice said, “We had already dismissed two petitions on the same issue. We can’t interfere”
Smalltime filmmaker Sunil Singh has moved Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court order rejecting his petition.
