Steve Smith Broke In Tears During Press Conference, Twitter Reacts

The ball tempering row in Australia Vs South Africa 3rd Test is currently one of the most shocking and talked about incidents all across the world. This incident has shaken the world. Cricket fans, as well as players all over the world, are in the state of shock, as they can’t believe that mighty Australia would do such things.

Following the horrific ball tempering saga, the Cricket Australia banned Steve Smith and David Warner for 1 year, whereas Cameron Bancroft faces a ban for 9 months. Vice-captain David Warner came up with the idea of ball tempering with sandpaper, which was carried out by newcomer Cameron Bancroft. However, as Steve Smith was the captain and it all happened under his leadership, it was kind of obvious that he has to face the maximum questions.

Today, Steve Smith returned from South Africa and held a press conference in Australia. He took the whole responsibility of the ball tempering and also stated that he failed as a leader in the third Test. It was clearly visible that Smith was disturbed and broken while addressing the press at Sydney International Airport. During the press meet, he broke down in tears at one point.

His father Peter Smith was there with him supporting his son in the time of crisis. The cricketer also felt sorry for his family because it will have repercussion on them.

During the press conference, Steve Smith said,

“I want to, as captain of the Australian cricket team, I take full responsibility. I made a serious error in judgement. It was a failure of leadership, my leadership. I will do everything I can to make up for my mistake and the damage it’s caused.”

He further added,

“I know I’ll regret this for the rest of my life. I’m absolutely gutted. I say two things, or three things. Firstly, I’m deeply sorry. I love the game of cricket, I love entertaining young kids, I love kids wanting to play the great game of cricket that I love. The two other things is that, any time you think about making a questionable decision, think about who you’re affecting, you’re affecting your parents. To see the way my old man’s been … it hurts. I just want to say I’m sorry for the pain that I’ve brought to Australia and the fans and the public, it’s devastating and I’m truly sorry.”
