Smriti Irani Takes ACTION On “Pehredaar Piya Ki” After The Online Petition.

The most recent TV serial that has taken the internet by storm and has created a widespread outrage is infamously known as “Pehredaar Piya Ki”. This show reached a new low when it broadcasted a honeymoon sequence between a 9-year old and a 19-year old. An outraged citizen started online petition to ban the show which gathered over 1 lakh responses.
The petition was aimed at The Broadcasting Ministry to ban the show. Smiti Irani soon forwarded the complaint to the The Broadcasting Content Complaints Council seeking quick action on the petition. The council however did not ban the show but has taken a step that may be beneficial to quite an extent.

The council therefore decided on Thursday to change the show timing from the 8:30 pm slot to the 10 pm slot where the viewership was pretty less. Not only that, it also ordered the show to run a disclaimer stating that “This show does not promote child marriage”. The channel has accepted the order and released an official statement stating that,

As per the decision of BCCC we are shifting the time slot of Pehredaar Piya Ki to 10 pm. The change will reflect from August 22 onwards”

Not only that, the show is all set to take a leap in October which the show seems to have decided after the huge outrage. Althought the producers claim that the show was already a part of the script and was always there.

A source has been quoted saying,

The leap will happen at the scheduled time. It’s not that this leap is happening because of all the controversy or the petition that has been filed. The leap was always supposed to take place in October, three months from the day —July 17 — the show went on air.”

Well, even thought the show hasn’t been banned it’s good to know that once united a change can happen for better.
