Shoojit Sircar Confirms Irrfan Khan Doing Fine, Will Star In Udham Singh Biopic

In an interview to PTI last year, the director Shoojit Sircar opened up about his dream project on which he working on since last 18 years. His dream is to make a biopic on Udham Singh who happens to be freedom fighter belonging to the Ghadar Party. He was best known for assassinating former Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab-  Michael O’ Dwyer. Director was quoted saying-

“I have been working on the story for 18-19 years now. When I shifted to Mumbai, this was the first film that I wanted to make but something else would always come up. It is set in the pre-Independence era, so it was a little difficult to plan,”

Earlier it was rumored that Ranbir Kapoor would star in the film but during the promotion of his recently released film October, Shoojit denied the rumors. A leading daily recently got in touch with Shoojit where director confirmed that Irrfan Khan will play lead in his film. He hopes to start filming the biopic by year end.

“I’ve been speaking to both Irrfan and his wife (Sutapa Sikdar), he’s responding well to the treatment and trying to cope with the knowledge that he’s battling neuroendocrine tumour by treating the recuperation in Europe like a short and unexpected holiday. I’m planning to visit him next month. We hope to roll by the year-end (the Udham Singh biopic), but will wait till Irrfan is ready to shoot,” the filmmaker told the tabloid.

Irrfan shared the news of his illness on Twitter in March. Since then his fans are praying for him. Time to time, Irrfan keep his fans updated with his whereabouts. While undergoing treatment in UK, Irrfan shared a post on his Instagram explaining why his closer ones call him a warrior.

Other than Shoojit’s Udham Singh biopic, Irrfan has roped in to play the lead role opposite Deepika Padukone in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next. The team is read to wait till Irrfan recuperates.
