Shashi Kapoor Was Completely Heartbroken When Jennifer Kendal Died!

Jennifer Kendel or Jennifer Kapoor as she later came to be addressed, got married to the Bollywood legend in 1958. Jennifer Kendel has died in 1984 which has left Shashi Kapoor “heartbroken”, says a close family friend in a tribute published on Mid-Day. Jennifer Kendal has influenced Shashi Kapoor’s lifestyle in many ways, well a proof has been his disciplined life.  As per sources, “Jennifer had a tremendous sense of discipline. It was she who instilled in him the idea that Sunday was a family day. Jennifer’s absence in Shashi’s life has been critical. Her passing left Shashi heartbroken.”

In quite a few movies, Jennifer has shared a screen space with Shashi Kapoor. In the year 1978, Jennifer has won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her great performance in the movie, “Junoon”. Shashi Kapoor has both starred and produced in the film. Shashi Kapoor was under the guidance of his actress wife “They would often have amazing food for lunch on Sundays. However, the only breakfast Shashi was allowed by Jennifer was a cup of coffee and two unbuttered toasts to maintain his lean physique. This was his routine for many years.”

After a few years after Jennifer Kendal’s death, Shashi Kapoor’s daughter Sanjana and Ms Bhattacharya’s son got married and as they said, “We could sense that he was missing his wife.” Sashi Kapoor’s daughter Sanjana added, “I remember having an informal meeting with Shashi during which Sanjana and Aditya informed that they wanted to call only 100 guests. Hearing this, he laughed and said, ‘Shashi Kapoor’s only daughter getting married and only 100 guests coming in! Not possible.”

Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendel famously starred together in Bombay Talkie 1970 that has been a Merchant Ivory production and has also featured the BIG B Amitabh Bachchan. Jennifer Kendel and Shashi Kapoor were survived by their sons Kunal and Karan with daughter Sanjana Kapoor.
