Making it to Bollywood is inarguably one of the toughest jobs one can think off. Even if someone makes it to Bollywood, there is no guarantee that they would survive in this cut-throat industry. There have been many actors who failed to make a mark despite making grand Bollywood debut. These actors are then forced to leave the industry and try their luck in something else. One such person is actress Mayuri Kango.
Mayuri is mostly known for her film Papa Kehte Hai released in 1996 opposite Jugal Hansraj. The movie failed to perform at the box office but one song Ghar Se Nikalte Hain was a major success. The song made her a youth sensation back then.
Interestingly, she decided to make a career in film over IIT Kanpur after her parents thought that she can’t do acting and engineering simultaneously. Therefore, she chose Arts in College but failed to attend the college owing to her popularity after the release of the movie.
However, she completed her graduation and master by studying at home and she got hitched to NRI Aditya Dhillon in 2003. Post her marriage, she moved to the USA and settled there. She completed her graduation from New York Baruch College Zicklin School of Business.
After working as managing director at Performics for two years, Mayuri joined Google India as Head of Industry – Agency partnerships and returned to Gurugram, India.
She has worked in more than 15 films before leaving Bollywood in 2000.
