Legendary studios recently adapted Warcraft, into live action and were met by mixed to negative reviews by audience and critics alike. Although Warcraft was a smash hit in China it tanked in the U.S.
Warcraft has deep roots in mythology and the movie suffers from trying to address each aspect of the game. Pokemon, on the contrary, could be a much easier franchise to sell. The franchise is kid-friendly and it could be easily be fitted as a sports film rather than a hardcore genre film. If the Pokemon movie indeed becomes a reality then it would probably be a home run for whichever studio.
