Padmavati Row: Despite Getting Clearance From CBFC, Karni Sena And Rajput Sabha Warn Of Violence
The problems for Padmavati are not looking to die down anytime soon. Yesterday, CBFC cleared the movie with few cuts and modification. The censor board has given U/A certificate to Padmavati and also suggested a title change.
“Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had its examining committee meeting on December 28 to review Padmavati and decided to give it UA certificate along with some modifications and likely change of the title to Padmavat. Certificate to be issued once required and agreed modifications are made,” ANI tweeted.
President of Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi has once again warned of a violent protest if the film releases. According to the report of Hindustan Times, he said, “We will vandalize the cinema halls if the movie is released. We want a complete ban,”
A scion of the Mewar Royal Family, Arvind Singh Mewar, who was part of the advisory committee constituted by the CBFC, said that all the three members had objected to the content of the film at the meeting.
Arvind Singh said in a statement, “The film has real-life characters and historic figures highly revered even today by the people, especially in Mewar. What they want to show by such a movie is beyond my understanding. The movie makers are neither with the Rajputs nor the Muslims, so where lies their loyalty?”
He further added, “I don’t know after how many cuts or modifications the CBFC had passed the certification and cannot predict the results. The certificate won’t carry our signatures. With so much harm already caused, they (movie makers & CBFC ) should be prepared for the consequences,”
His nephew Vishvaraj Singh has also slammed the censor board for clearing the film with some ‘cosmetic’ changes. He said that changing title won’t change the fact that the movie refers to real places and other persons in the history, as their names are unchanged. He said that he was also part of the panel constituted by CBFC and was invited to the meeting. However, he had some reservation about the invitation and asked for some clarification.
He wrote a letter to CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi on Saturday writing, “Contrary to all civilised conduct, the CBFC, by suggesting such changes, has reduced itself to endorsing the propagation of fiction about heroic personalities and living families. The chairman’s stating one thing and doing another renders the board to be just as ignoble as those distorting and seeking to profit from the history of this country.”
Karni Sena supporter Lokendra Singh Kalvi said that six out of nine members of the panel had not watched the film till now.
Padmavati is a period drama film directed by acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie features Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in the lead roles. The movie was slated to released on 1 December, but it was pushed due to huge outrage in the country. Several groups have objected to the film, which forced makers to postpone the film.
We wonder when these problems will stop. Will Padmavati have a smooth release? Tell us your thoughts in the comment section down below.
