Padmaavat’ maintains a steady hold on its fifth day
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus which has been making news and drawing all the media attention much before its release on January 25th, 2018 has crossed the Rs. 100 Crore mark at the box office and now making its way towards Rs. 130 Crore. Post the long extended opening weekend where the film witnessed a phenomenal response with regards to its box office collections, the Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Padmaavat’ has continued to remain strong on its first Monday that is, on the fifth day since its release box office
As per early estimates, the film has raked in Rs. 14.25 crore on its fifth day and now holds a grand total of Rs. 128.25 crore. Despite the drop in ticket rates, the drop in box office collections of ‘Padmaavat’ on Monday is just 20-25% from Friday which shows great trend. Going by the current reports, the film is expected to make a business of Rs 160 crore in its first week.
The film is made on a stupendously huge budget of Rs 180 crore including promotions and marketing, with the makers having spent an additional Rs 20 crore for the conversion of the film into 3D and IMAX 3D format. The magnum opus which is based on the 16th-century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s ‘Padmavat’ also stars Shahid Kapoor, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad and Anupriya Goenka in prominent roles. Actor Ranveer Singh who has received rave reviews for his exceptional and top-notch performance in a statement said, “It is extremely rare and overwhelming to get this kind of love from the audience. I’m grateful and touched that everyone has been so appreciative of my performance.”
‘Padmaavat’ which is based on a Sufi poem of the same name written in 1540 by poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi is the story of honour, valour and obsession set in 1303 AD. The epic historical drama has already turned out to be one of the biggest openers of director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actors Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. In the international markets, the film has taken an even bigger opening than ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Dangal’ doing favourably well in North America (USA and Canada) where it has become the highest grossing Hindi film in a single day on its third day of release.
The upcoming week does not see the release of any new big Bollywood film and so it’s safe to say that ‘Padmaavat’ will continue to dominate the box office. While the film is all set to cross the Rs 200 crore mark, the lifetime business of ‘Padmaavat’ remains to be seen.
