MTV VMAs 2018: Madonna Pays Tribute To ‘Queen Of Soul’ Aretha Franklin

The MTV Video Music Awards 2018 took place on 20th August at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and in the event, Madonna paid tribute to late Aretha Franklin. She described the star as “one of the greatest soul singers that ever lived”. Also, big stars like Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, and Jennifer Lopez gave stunning performances.The ceremony was opened by Cardi B who appeared on stage with an object wrapped in a towel, teasing fans with the first glimpse at her daughter. She won Best New Artist and Best Collaboration.Franklin died at the age of 76 on 16th August and organisers paid a tribute to the late singer through Madonna’s eulogy. She told the audience it was Franklin’s song that launched her career.Madonna shared her experience how Franklin inspired her. She said she was living in Detroit with only 35 dollars in her pocket and was rejected at the auditions. Then, in one of the auditions, she decided to sing Franklin’s (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman. This was the turning point of her career and this made her land in Paris. Madonna said, “none of this would have happened, could have happened without our lady of soul”.Madonna added, “Thank you Aretha for empowering all of us. Our R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Long live the queen.”

This didn’t go well with some people and Madonna has received backlash. They felt that Madonna can’t pay tribute in a right way.
