‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ Trailer Review!

For many of us, MS Dhoni was an overnight success. The wicket keeper and his helicopter shot, and his career graph that seemed to go only one way – up. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story starring Sushant Singh Rajput shows the years of slog, the hard work, and the heartbreaks, which went into making Dhoni, Dhoni.

The trailer of MS Dhoni biopic landed on Thursday and it is a deep and thoughtful look at the Indian ODI captain’s life, warts and all.It begins with a young Dhoni playing football and being asked if he wants to play cricket. “Cricket mei batting accha lagta hai,” he says. He is asked to learn wicket keeping first.

He learns the game, gives it all his time and everything he has got. But the derring-do and confidence which will mark his career is obvious early on. He insists on opening, his only worry is his partner would get him run out. He delivers on his promise. And that helicopter shot, his fans will go to town with this.

The pressure to study, something all children in middle-class homes are aware of, played a part in Mahi’s life too. Anupam Kher plays his father like every Indian dad. Dhoni getting the job of a ticket collector in Indian Railways is good enough for Mahi’ dad, but not for Mahi.

The trailer doesn’t skip Dhoni and the controversies either. Him asking the management to drop a trio of senior cricketers is very much there in the trailer. The cricketers are never named but we all know the ones the trailer is talking about. Does this confirm the rumours that Dhoni had a voice in turning these senior players out?

“Dhoni finishes off in style! A magnificent strike into the crowd. India lift the World Cup after 28 years and it’s an Indian captain who has been absolutely magnificent in the night of the Final.”

These words, that last six and Dhoni’s look in his eyes while tracing his ball into the crowd — goosebumps never felt better.

Sushant as Dhoni is extremely believable. At times, the actor and the character merge into two and we are actually watching Dhoni on screen. “As I walked the path, the journey became my life. Here’s a glimpse,” Dhoni wrote while tweeting the trailer. Watching this video gave us nostalgia too.

The film also stars Bhumika Chawla as Dhoni’s sister and Kiara Advani as Dhoni’s wife Sakshi.

The movie is directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by Fox Star Studios and Inspired Entertainment. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story releases on September 30.
