M.S. Dhoni : The Untold Story :: Disha Patani Learned A Tribal Language For Her Role In The Film

Disha Patani, who is all set to make her Bollywood debut in the film M.S Dhoni : The Untold Story, learned a tribal language for the character she portrays in the film. She plays the role of Priyanka Jha, former girlfriend of M.S. Dhoni. As MSD and Priyanka Jha used to partially converse in Asuri, the tribal language used by the Munda community, it was woven into the script and Disha Patani picked up a few lines in that language. Asuri is a minor Munda language and exists only in spoken form today. There exists no written form of the language today. It is spoken in isolated pockets of Jharkhand (south Palamau, north Ranchi, Gumla and Lohardaga districts), Chhatisgarh (Raigarh and Jashpur), Odisha, West Bengal and Maharashtra. A source close to the actress revealed, "Since Asuri is spoken in a few pockets of Jharkhand, Dhoni’s home state, Disha trained with a tribal linguistic expert for two hours a day. He would also accompany her to the sets to guide her in getting the diction and accent correct. She will be speaking in Asuri in bits and parts, and not extensively ". "It is extremely difficult to learn Asuri since references to it are sparse. Only a handful of people in India speaks the language. Moreover, there is hardly any script development for it," added the source. Disha, while talking about her experience says, "It was quite a challenge, but an interesting experience too.” Seems like Disha has geared herself up for her Bollywood debut and has worked hard for her role in the film.
